Finally got around to taking some pictures and updating my blog. Here's a couple WIP photos for some new Haradrim I'm working on for a GamesDay army.

Glad you liked the alternative color scheme. Here's a basic run down of the painting. I used a mixture of Citadel Colors and also Reaper Master series paints. I find that Reaper has a better selection of browns and flesh tones.

Skin: Tanned Highlight (Reaper)
Robes/Capes: 50/50 Scorched Brown/Scab Red (same basecoat as my Howdah)
Tunics (and Paints): Leather Brown (Reaper)
Wraps (around legs): Khaki Highlight (Reaper)
Boots: Scorched Brown (Citadel)
Golden Armor: Shining Gold (Citadel)
Spear Shafts/ Bow Shafts: Uniform Brown (Reaper)
Silver Metal: Mithril Silver (Citadel)
Bow Strings: Bleached Bone (Citadel)
Gems: Ultramarine Blue (Citadel)

There is no highlighting on any of these models yet. The shading was all provided by "dipping" using a water based varnish (Old Walnut I think?). Some of the models were dipped straight in and others were brushed on. In retrospect, I like the brushed on versions better.

I still need to in and give them some eyes, clean up some of the faces, and add some highlights, especially to the robes. That and finish the bases. My hope is to get the whole army done by the end of the Holiday weekend here in the US.

That dipping method is really effective with these warriors, it looks like you have given them at least two highlights! I think the Watchers of Karna could do with a different colour wash rather than brown or perhaps a highlight. Goodluck for this weekend anyway and be sure to take battle notes and photos :)

So the Watchers weren't dipped or washed in brown (except the scabbard). They were painted with the foundation purple color and space wolves grey. I put one, maybe two highlights on the robes and then used the purple Citadel wash. The shading is very effective in person (maybe doesn't come through the photos so well). I might still give them a bit of highlight but they are a lot closer to being finished than the Haradrim.

Ah sorry  my mistake, didn't want to sound rude. Im colourblind so don't trust these faulty eyes lol

The other photos are a bit clearer than the one of the Watchers of Karna. Anyway great stuff, looking forward to seeing more :)

No worries, I certainly didn't take it as a rude comment. Trust me, my color blind eyes have plenty of problems too!!

Nicely done Brent!
The addition of the bow strings is ace, very well executed! The colors are also very striking...all around, very nicely done Brent! :D

What's this dipping that people keep going on about?

And drat! You're using paints that I don't have!

Dipping is usually just dipping the painted model into a wood stain to add depth to the paint job. I personally feel it is best used on models that are supposed to be grimy and dirty looking (i.e. Orcs, Uruks), Dwarves are about the only good unit I'd use this method on.

These are about as good as pictures as I could take of this miniature.

Hit me with all your critiques. I'm planning on entering him in the Golden Demon competition at the Chicago Gamesday event. I don't expect to win anything but I am hoping to at least make the first cut this year (ione of my new year's hobby resolutions :D ). Keep in mind this is about a 300% blow-up of the actual miniature.

Things I know I need to do to finish:
*Add some more basing components.
*Paint Rim (duh!)
*Clean up Facial Tatoos - perhaps add some more patterns to it.
*Look over all the robes and try to get some more blending in.

Please let me know if you see something that looks off or can make suggestions on things I could correct. I'm really happy with the way this miniature turned out but I can always make it better.

Thanks!

I really like the looks so far Brent, I hope you do well! :D
Maybe you could wash the club and the other bone pieces in a Bleached Bone/Codex Grey wash to add some depth to them.
Good luck with him at Games Day! :D

Great job Brent! I also really like this model. The face and eyes in particular really stand out.

The only one I can compare it to is the one in the Harad sourcebook. For the skulls coming down from the breast plate, I would drybrush or add layers of Rotting Flesh, Bleached Bone and maybe Skull White to finish with a brown wash to make it look 'grubby' :D

The wicker armour looks authentic and I like the alternate skin tone. Other than that, this is a winner!

Good luck

I wish I could claim that I sculpted him. He's the Mahûd King model straight from the blister.
