In Gothmog, Castellan of Minas Morgul's profile it says he has Overlord, but then it gives a description different to the one on page 69. Are they the same Overlord rule? or do they just happen to have the same name? The way I use this rule is that it is nothing to do with the page 69 overlord, it is different (Gothmog is an army banner) or else he would have two different special rules, one for Overlord and one for army banner.

Hi, you appear new, welcome :D

Read it clearly. The 'description' has nothing to do with overlord. It means he has the overlord rule, and he counts as an army banner. They didn't put the army banner stuff seperately because he isn't technically banner.

ok but are you sure, because I can't think of any other example where they put the name of an existing special rule (in bold) then give a description which adds to that. I always thought the description that follows the rule tells us the thing that the rule does (and that is only what it does). Are you saying that the non-bold text that follows the word overlord on pg164 is completely unrelated and separate to the Overlord rule. If so, shouldnt it have its own title in bold?

It's merely adding to the rule. So he has Overlord and also counts as an army banner. Nothing more.

I am sure.

When it says the description after the bolded words are the description of the rule, they do not mean for the common special rules, which always follows the descriptions listed in the common special rules section including terror etc, and in this case the hero version.

Also, Gothmog is not an Army Banner, he counts as one, so he cannot be listed as having that rule.

And what Draugluin says.

2 things:
Are you saying that Gothmog doesnt have the benefits of Army Banner (I believe it is Heroic Advance)?
I think you are right but can you give me an example of another formation/hero with a common special rule that is added to with a description :legolas:

First, Gothmog does have the benefits of an army banner (heroic advance). He just literally isn't one.

Secondly, Expert Riders (cavalry only) from the King's Guard.

Artillery as well. Only 2 of them don't have modification. As most of them say that the use a unique table. This is the most notable example.

There are slightish ones like Tree Slumber, a variant of Ambusher, Iron Fist a variant of Overlord. Also, Extremely/Ridiculously Hard 2 Kill.

fair enough. I always used to think when to writers were making thebook they thought Gothmog should be a army banner and when they were thinkng of a name for that special rule they forgot that overlord was already a rule

Yup. Unless you combo him up with Khamul and the Dwimmerlaik, because then suddenly you lose all opponents...

Or at least, people don't like you anymore.

Unless they play Gandalf, Galadriel and Dain. Or Arry and Gimli.

counsellors can give eachother might, but remember no statistic in the profile of any character can go above 10, so they wont be able to get more than 10 might at any time

@Warbo: That's still a sick amount of Epic Rampage and Epic Defense.

@ Gothmog: Anyone can defeat the Aragorn+Gimli combo, certainly if you play multiple-Wraith. For the points thats in there, you can get 4 Ringwraiths. Pall of night stops charges, SfC and Visions of Woe + Sunder Spirit kill the buggers. Add in a few Arbalesters, and hey presto! 500 points gone in two turns max.

I would do all I could to charge the ringwraiths then duel them all to death in one turn

Epic Strike.

Aragorn can out duel them if he also calls epic strike

Then it's just a roll-off. And you get the duel back in your face for free, never forget - Gothmog. And you get black darted if you seriously try this - I mean bring along enough duelers to get a second round of duels in.

Remember that aragorn would call Epic duel, so he gets to roll two dice

Still, it remains very chancy. You will probably win, but I doubt you'd get through R3.
