A little late starting the thread, but better than never, I guess.
I started this project some time ago because I didn't much like the "ooga booga" pose GW gave to the Shadowlord, even though I really like the model. See what I mean?
So, the very first thing I did was take a pair of dikes to it. After repositioning the arms and adding some structural wires, this is what I had:
Then I sculpted him a whole new cloak on those wires, trying to make it look like he's in the midst of some ghostly wind.
Obviously, I've started painting the armor before I took the photo, but I'll try to keep things more current from here. In the end, if I can make it work, he's going to have a dark mist coming off of him to reflect the dark aura that surrounds him.
