Notice how the purple brings depth ? This is a lot of what I've been saying about the use of colour to create contrast. A dark French glaze in the depths will add to this. Black in the very deepest parts.
Check painting Buddha for wet blending. A simple but effective technique I use a lot.

Yeah, i actually used wet-blending on the smaller parts, but stuck to a more traditional layering technique for the larger parts. Still something I need to work on. And which "French glaze" do you mean? A Vallejo paint?

I love your work (being an elf-fan, myself), hadn't commented on your thread so far, but I'm amazed. I was only wondering whether you are planning to paint more elves in each color scheme. Sorry if it's been mentioned before.

Thanks for the comment.

And yes, I plan on making different colors schemes for all of the major Noldor figures and their followers in the Silmarillion. The first "color scheme" I have completed is the warrior of Nargothrond(Finrod). I am currently working on a scheme for Maglor's people and elves.

For each color scheme, I obviously do a lot of research looking at other works of art that show off their armor/clothing. I also read the text as well haha.

I like much your project, G.!
Could you show us an example for each of the schemes you completed so far?

Oh man... hope you will make some step-by-step tutorials in your free time. Great effects!

Hey guys, unfortunately I have been out of the painting business for about a year now. School is taking up much of my time, but I am starting to get the itch again to paint, hopefully it will be soon, but can't be sure.

Thankfully, I have kept all of my notes on color schemes and such saved on my computer, but the problem is, it will take me a while to get back to painting at the level I was before.

No worries though, I shall return!

So, Unreleased miniatures came out with elven helmets lately, and I decided to buy some to try it out on the Perry miniatures. I've been looking everywhere for some "elven" like helmets to customize for a Gondolin army.

Anyways, here are a few pics. I had to use some green stuff in the neck area.

Without the arms on, the head actually seems to somewhat fit, but when I add the arms, it looks kind of awkward.

Let me know what I could do to make it look a little more natural.

Ok, so I did a little more work and customization.

Tbh, it actually doesn't seem that bad

I need to find some cloaks that I can put on the back of these guys, that way it will make them feel a little bit more elven. If anyone has any ideas, please share.

Nice to know about those helmets, I might have to get some. Check out the cloaks on Victoria Miniatures. Also, someone used them on some WoMT on the site, but I don't remember who.. Mapper, maybe?

I used some tacked on, see viewtopic.php?f=30&t=32646 but haven't done much more than that. Also Victoria Miniatures put out some new backpacks after my last order. :-(

I just ordered a pack of those Victoria miniatures cloaks, so we'll see how those fit in with the Perry miniatures.

I also ordered some of these spartan helmets from Hitech miniatures
http://hitechminiatures.com/accessories ... lmets.html

They look interesting, so i'll try them out with the Perry miniature bodies

So, after more than a year off of painting, this is what I conjured up this evening. Of course it is....NMM haha

Basecoat: 1:1 Calthan Brown: Snaketbite Leather

Highlights: Add in Bleached bone up to pure Bleached Bone (using layering and feathering)

Shadows: Glaze Dark Flesh, then glaze Scorched brown, then glaze black into the recesses.

Image

My next attempt, I'm going to try and do more of layering and feathering for the shadows, instead of glazing hundreds of layers.

Also, I am waiting for some Victoria Miniatures cloaks and have just ordered some Thunderbolt mini's!

So, tried to paint up a "colder" NMM gold, here's how it came out.

Other than the small harsh highlight at the top of the blade, I'm actually pleased with how this came out. I'm getting my painting Mojo back.

Tell me what you think!

Wow. I'm always impressed with people who can pull of NMM. I just can't seem to make it work.

Oh! Hoard of Bits restocked. I have those capes, they don't fit as well with LoTR minis because of the shape of their shoulders and upper thorax.

Thanks for that Erunion.

Just got the Victoria Miniatures cloaks. They look nice, but I think I won't be needing them anyways.

So, onto the Elven Silmarillion painting update.

Next up is the House of Maedhros, 1st son of Feanor.
From researching many pictures of this character, he seems to have a lot of red and black. Secondary includes colder yellows, and white.

Here is my work on a prototype for the color scheme.

The majority of the armor is done, along with the cloak.

I was thinking of painting the inner part of the red cloak white, the robe black, and the entire spear NMM Silver. I'm not sure yet where I should go for the sash in the middle of the figure.

Tell me what you think guys, and give me some feedback on which other colors I should maybe use.
