Post subject:  Fellowship of the Ring (updated October 3rd)

I have recently started to play through the Fellowship of the Ring journey book, like in the post Tabletop_heroes made a while ago. I will also paint and build my way from the Shire to Amon Hen and will post some progress pics here.

The first scenario involves nine dunedain and three ringwraiths. The wraiths I have had ready since 2002, so no pics of them in this thread until I will inevitably need more. Here are the dĂșnedain I need for the scenarios:

Image

These models are still wip, only base colours have been painted on them and the bases are ready. Here are two test pieces I tried for deciding on the colour tones I'll use on the rest. I will highlight and shade the wip dunedain to match the guy on the right.

Image

These guys will get only a very basic paintjob, with Foundation Paint basecoat, simple highlights and then washes to tie the highlights to the basecoat and shade a bit. More involved painting will follow when I soon will need Gildor.

I like how they have turned out as well. Are you going to post photos of your hills and trees? I would like to see how Buckberry Ferry turns out :)

Thanks for the comments, guys!

Oldman Willow, I probably won't build the hills and trees from the FotR book. Trees I already have for a whole Fangorn, and I've thought to buy a couple of Citadel Hills.

This weekend we had some nice weather for photographing, so here are pics of what I've been up to during the past week.

The dĂșnedain are now finished:

Image

I also took a new picture of my old (2004) ringwraiths. The next four are already assembled and I'll post a pic of the whole set when they are finished. The bases are now finished like my Mordor bases, but since I almost always use ringwraiths only against Fellowship, I may re-paint the bases, at least the rims, to match my other non-Mordor minis.

Image

I also started building the rocky outcrops. I'm not very impressed of them as rocks, but I like the way they are used in Moria, so I'll build them anyway.

That's all folks!

donuthare, the rocks are WIP! :)

At the moment they are just textured with roughcoat, no actual painting so far.

Great work so far, Pasi! I really like the Dunedain, my only critiscm with them being the blue. I like my rangers to have an earthy appearence, but that's just me. The Wraiths and the rocks look nice. Look forward too more! :)

I like the way the rocks are used in this supplement as well. I plain to dress mine up with cast rock out crops.

Image

I want to use them for Moria and Goblin Town. I am going to follow the plain in the supplement and try to add details. I posted an idea for gollums lake on my hobbit hole post. I am going to follow along with you and create the elements from the whole book. Have you worked on your hills yet?.

Post subject:  Re: Fellowship of the Ring (updated October 3rd)

It's a few months since the last update, but I haven't abandoned this project. I made some progress during the summer but was too lazy to take pics. However, here's some new stuff.

All of the Nine are now painted. Looks like you can't get all the poses from the blisters with mounted Ringwraiths because all I got were the "old" five poses. BTW, I re-painted the bases to match the new board and terrain. The Mordor bases were quite useless since I never use these minis in a Mordor army.

Image

Then I noticed my old board had warped and after some pondering what kind of board to build next, I went for a plastic one. The Realm of Battle board:

Image

Here's the board in gaming mode during the first scenario. There's also one Citadel Gaming Hill on the corner of the board. Note the Ikea dragon curtains! :-)

Image

I also painted Gildor for scenario three. The hobbits have been painted in 2002 but I'll need to take new photos since my camera skills weren't that good eight years ago.

OK, that's all for a while. The next update is probably new pics of my old hobbits and old river.

Looking good, do those trees have foam foliage? I like the new ringwraith bases much better. :yay:

Good to see someone actually using the minis in a game!
What is you opinion of the plastic boards from GW - are they solid enough to withstand years of fighting?

Post subject:  Re: Fellowship of the Ring (updated October 3rd)

@Dorth: I think in my use, yes, they will last years. The plastic feels like it's very durable and I store them in their own storage bag, which gives them excellent protection. I also use my old MDF board as a base onto which I lay the new plastic boards and since they rest on a solid surface, I don't think they can get damaged in any way I handle them.

@theavenger: Yes, that's foam foliage. I bought those trees from a model railway shop ages ago. The brand is Faller, a German modelling supplies company.

Thanks for the comments, guys.
