Post subject:  Building the Isengard Diorama(29th Nov 2010)

Hello guys. It's time for a new diorama project. Finally I got into planning how the Isengard diorama is going to look like. I did some sketches as you will see in my video link below.

The diorama will consists of 3 levels of Isengard. I will incoporate 2 different scenes in this one diorama. The first one is the scene when the Ents are attacking Isengard and a second one where Saruman inspects his underground orc factory. Though both scenes were at different points of the story, I will "summarise" the two different scenes of Isengard in this single diorama.

I'm breaking some rules on the LOTR the storyline but rest assured the 2 scenes are at different levels of the diorama. You'll also get to see Lurtz, Saruman and Grima together for the first time ever-so don't be shocked or get mad if it's not the same with the actual storyline.

A short rambling on the project can be found here:

Thanks for keeping up with my nonsense. Will keep you all posted about this project.

@Lords of glamorgarth, Queen Berúthiel, Longbottom Leaf, Natarn, Phantom_Lord, King Elessar the Uniter, Gorgoroth- Thanks so much for the support guys. It's been an awesome response.

I made some head way with assembling the Birch tree Giant from Majestic Bears Minis. It's temporarily put together with superglue just to show the before conversion view. I disassembled it again and did a minor conversion for the next video.

I've have received some comments from the last alliance forum that Lurtz should not be in the diorama since he's dead. I did expect such replies.lol. As I mentioned before I want to break some rules from the movie/story. It's just more refreshing ...at least for me.

So I deliberated with the Ents. And they said, "Don't be Hasty little Hobbit!"

I might just convert Lurtz into an orc overseer or something, so that I can put that particular matter at rest. Let me think about that.

I started varnishing the wooden base for the Isengard Diorama with water based wood stains. Here's a simple article on how I did it if you are interested.

Well that's it for now. The conversion of the Birch Ent/Giant video will be up soon cause I'm still editing the video.

@ukfreddybear and Gorgoroth-Thanks so much guys. Freddy, i hope you don't mind me going crazy on your Birch Tree Giant. So much potential in the miniature that I had to give it some modifications. Still a long way to completion of the diorama but I'm glad it is on the way there.

Here's the update as promised. I included a before and after photo here to show what the modifications that was done to the Birch tree giant. Of course the full video of the process can be found below as well.

I will still add some more items to this Birch tree giant so this is not the end of the mod yet.

Video to the process is about 9 mins plus long.

No problem at all. I'm always intrigued to see what people do with the minis. In fact I wish more people would give me feedback on them with their pics of the finished items. This is even better - a video diary! 8)

I like what you have done by creating a slightly defensive posture. Normally we see aggressive poses done but this is like a breath of fresh air. :yay:

The extra foliage looks great too. It seems you're fairly adept with the sculpting tool yourself.

@ukfreddybear & @Queen Berúthiel-Thanks so much. I''m trying to add as much detail to make it more fun.

Here's some latest update guys. I have made some miniature arrows for the miniature figures like the Birch tree GIant.. Also I converted 2 Mordor Orcs to fit in the diorama. An archer and an orc with a grappling hook in progress.

The video on how I made the arrow is below. Hope it may be of help.

And not to forget, don't miss this article on how to make a rope using copper wire. Very handy and more rigid than a string.

Thanks for watching. Till the next update. Adios! :-D

Top tip with that rope Sharif. I think I will have to 'borrow' that idea for my own future projects. 8)

The diorama is shaping up very nicely. Fiddly stuff those arrows!

I looked at the article on the miniatures you're using, and for the snotlings, i think it would be crazy cool if you found a way to add breeding pits, and put them in there. Just an idea.

Also, i really enjoyed the ent conversion. Although i like the GW ent, the birch tree is pretty darn cool. Did you ever consider using treebeard?
