Okay, well sorry for a late update, and another thread to add to the already imposing list of up-to-date WiPs, but I promised an update to a few members ;)

Here's a WiP Fountain Court Guard I've started painting...

Image

He's my first try ever at NMM, which I think is coming along pretty nicely... it's also the first mini I've painted since the Boromir in my gallery, and beleive me, that was a long time ago!

I still have to do the gold NMM, a few metal NMM touches aswell as the spear, the cloak, and obviously any tips or recommendations you lot have to offer!

I just noticed the white needs some reworking, and the white of the helmet NMM is way too big, and the highlights on the robes are ugly... looks like I still have some work to do!

Great looking NMM!, especially for a first go 8) but I think you should give it 1 or 2 washes of Badab Black so that the armour will appear dark in the recesses

Yeah, very nice first try.

However, I think the silver needs some more darker colours, but I ain't no NMM expert, so you shouldn't listen to me, really.

Ok well here's the finished FCG:

Check out my new sig

All in all a fun mini to paint, and I feel I'm improving steadily. I decided I wouldn't do any freehand on this one at this time, as I need a finer brush. (Right now the one I use is the Citadel Starter Brush from MoM  )
The gold NMM isn't up to par, so that'll be one thing I'll try to improve on future minis. Other than that, please C&C :)

Edit: Here's the CMoN link if you're interested: http://www.coolminiornot.com/230378
The rating isn't so good, the painting likewise, but I'm hopefully improving :)

It looks good, Julian. Great first attempt at NMM. It looks a little bright though, maybe a wash of Badab Black? Some of the highlights may also need a little touching up, but on the whole its a great model, and one to be proud of. 8)

That looks great Julian. 8)

But I think you should add some recesses to the white cloth. Also the mask only goes to the tip of the nose :P

Nice work! Is that cobble stones under the snow? Great detail if it is!
I am looking forward to the beacon in particular...

I'm with you on that, Jul. Why do you think I'm painting Dwarves?

Is the base finished Julian? Although I love the stones as well, I think the color could be a little more natural. Good work Julian. 8)

Well the stones are supposed to simulate those of the Minas Tirith courtyard, but I think maybe a black wash in the recesses could add to the reality... I didn't glue the FCG as I wasn't sure if the base could be improved :)

Nice first try! :yay:
The silver's very good, though as you said yourself, the gold needs a little more work!

Aside from the NMM, the highlights on his black cloak look a bit extreme and yeah the white could do with a bit more work, though the base looks very good. 8)

Sorry if I sound harsh but I'm only trying to give you pointers to improve on.

:)
