Fantastic painting Chris. Have you tried mixing the old GW vomit brown with black for highlighting black? goes a funny green colour but seems to work.

I'll give it a go. I don't have vomit brown but I have plenty of other browns so at least one should work.

If you get stuck Chris shoot me a PM with your address and i'll send you a vomit brown. I bought a load in bulk when it went OOP so have tons of the stuff.

Thanks for the offer. I've looked up vomit brown and it turns out to be one of the few colours that has a corresponding p3 match which I already have.

A couple of work in progress shots for this week:

Love it Chris. You going to pick Smaug up?

Probably not. I had a big repair bill for my car this month and with Christmas coming spending that much on a single model is going to be hard to justify.

Love the Fell beast! Looks really bad (in an evil way)

But all the more satisfying when you do...

*silently puts back the jaw that dropped moments ago because of Denethor's face...*

that's probably the best Tauriel I've seen (no offense to the other excellent Tauriels around these parts). Something about yours seems the most life-like.

That is some of the best model painting that I've ever seen. The faces on Tauriel ,and especially Denethor, are amazing. Tauriel seems to be so challenging for everyone and I haven't even started mine yet . But your version is the best I've seen - showing her as feminine face, just very well done.

If you ever would be willing, a brief tutorial or perhaps an article for the Tomes of Wisdom would be invaluable to all the inexperienced painters here like myself. Although you may not want to give away all your secrets ! :)

I am still almost speechless looking at that Denethor - the level of detail makes it look like a 2 foot tall sculpture, and yet to know that it's only 28mm - just unbelievable work by you

If I practiced every day for a 100 years I might get half as good as you!

I always love your work.

Reference your black cloak painting issues.
I have bought Scale 75 black and white paint set. It is an incredible set. The paints truly lend themselves to glazing, I love them. In fact so much I'm starting to collect the other sets.
I have the new unnatural skin set on order.

I've been messing around with a couple of cheap spotlights and I'm starting to get some better pictures.

I took a couple closeups of Tauriel to show how I painted her face.

The main colours I used were

Bugman's glow
Thrall flesh
Cad red
Sombre grey

The basic structure is thrall flesh + bugman's for the basecoat, thrall flesh on the forehead, cad red for the cheeks and shade transitions and sombre grey for the jaw. The highlights and shades were applied using very dilute paint especially for the sombre grey as too much would give her a more manly appearence.
