Your painting is fantastic. Do you mind explaining how you painted the Hunter Orcs. Which paints did you use for the skin? |

I can try - I paint a lot these days and don't write these things down. I think I used three different orange/reds for the basecoat. Dark flesh (vallejo game colour) is a good choice but anything warm should work. For shading I used the blue, green or purple gw shades applying them neatly into the recesses rather than all over. For extra definition I used a glaze of turquoise and black into the deepest shadows. Highlighting was done by adding ivory to the base colour and applying one or two glazes onto those areas hit by light. To finish I picked out the details with some edge highlighting again concentrating on those areas hit by light. Incidentally for Arwen's face I also used dark flesh and ivory. In different ratios obviously. |

I like that you talk like an artist, it really makes sense to think that way instead of the rut many of us fall into with just using GW system base, shade, layer, layer.... although it is a great system, it doesn't teach the values of color relationships and how to push a model beyond that. I think Arwen looks serious, a bit somber, and the mood of the colors are speaking that as well. Very nice to see. Keep up the fantastic inspiring work. |

It's nice of you to say these things but to be honest I paint this way because I find it enjoyable. The gw style to me at least is very tedious. I tried it around October/November last year and would spend so much time on basecoating that I would lose motivation very quickly. Anyway, I picked up the trolls to throw up on ebay. |

The main tone is trollblood highlight which is a warm medium grey and I use the blue, orange, red and green gw shades to add a little variation. |

Lovely work Chris, I like what you've done with these. The bases are also wonderful, especially those grass tufts, nice touch with these. |

I love the tone you have created for the trolls flesh, it very much is in keeping with the movie. I thought the official GW colour scheme was too soft and resembled a new born baby if that makes sense. |
