Erunion wrote: What's your recipe for Thranduil's blue cloak? Going from an earlier post I used these colours : Basecoat - trollblood base First highlight - menoth white highlight Second highlight - frostbite First shade - sanguinary base Second shade - coal black Well I don't have a lot of time for my own projects these days so have taken to revisiting old models. Here's the goblin king before and after: All I've done is add various glazes of red, purple and brown gw shades into the shadows and thinned ivory to lighten up the main skintone. |

Fantastic colouring on him, I think it's the best I've seen. |

Great painting, right up to your usual standard. I just have an issue on the colour scheme, there doesn't appear any life, it looks more like a statue ?!?! I'm hoping it's the photo as they can be very deceptive if you get the wrong light. |

I'm hoping it's the photo as they can be very deceptive if you get the wrong light. The colours are slightly bleached. On the model there is a mottled undertone of red that the camera hasn't picked up properly. I did these hunter orcs as part of a commission. |

Like I hoped, the photo hasn't picked out the detail or the true colours. The hunter orcs look the part, very sinister looking. The best part of this being the fact it's a commission job, how's it going so far ? |

Starting a new business has been a hard learning curve but things are improving. And apart from not having much money life is pretty sweet. I get to spend a lot more time with my wife and the dog than I would otherwise if I had an office job. Along with the satisfaction of being paid for doing something I enjoy. |

Would love to get that definition out of darkly painted models. What's the secret? |

The painting on the Goblin King and the Hunters is top notch. Very rich while being dark. |

The Goblin King and the Hunter Orcs all exhibit the sine qua non of orcoidal personification: they look filthy! You can see every detail but it all has an elegant patina of whatever dirt they have been sleeping in. Wonderful work! |

Gene Parmesan wrote: Would love to get that definition out of darkly painted models. What's the secret? Black lining and near white spot highlights. Also, I try to incorporate both temperature and value contrast. This amounts to using glazes of 2-3 different gw shades on each area. I'm a big fan of Roman Jarhead at massive voodoo - to the point of hoping to come over for a painting session this year - and I love how he puts so much detail and texture onto each model. |

Lucky you if you get to see Roman, he is one painter I totally admire. His work is exceptional and his level of detail beggars belief. You will have to let me know if you do go, I would be very interested in hearing what he has to say. |

Your painting is fantastic. Do you mind explaining how you painted the Hunter Orcs. Which paints did you use for the skin? |
