Thanks.
I like to use real dirt instead of the modeling sand since there's so much of it in my backyard and since it looks better.
And, it's dirt cheap! :-D

Wow, real dirt you say...looks amazing! Maybe I'll start grabbing some from my garden and try it out. :)

Here's an update of my Isengard Troll.

It would have been completed, but there's been a minor set-back.
You can see on the shield arm a gap of missing paint. I was showing another model to my sister while I set this guy down and she accidentally bumped him off the kitchen counter. He suffered an amputated arm which was re-pinned on and is in the process of re-applying Green Stuff. After that dries, I'll finish him off by painting that part of skin, painting the cloth, painting the details (eyes, teeth, nails, etc.), and do some work on the fletchings of the arrows.

And here's an addition to the project!

Gandalf the White!

Just need to base him and paint the eyes and he'll be finished as well.
Well, that's all for now. Till next time!
C&C welcome!

Here's the final for my Isengard Troll! :D
I absolutely love the way it turned out. It really just comes to life.

And here are some other models I've decided to paint. Not exactly for this project but more for the collection.
Here is Frodo and Sam and there 'sss-neaking' guide Gollum/Smeagol.

Frodo has been painted the most next to Sam. I believe Gollum to be finished except for the base. Not sure what to add to it.

And so, that is where this project stands so far. Hopefully I can get out to the store to buy some supplies to start the fortress.
Thanks for all the uplifting comments. It really helps motivate me to keep going.
Till next time!

The troll is brilliant. The best work I have seen from you I reckon.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Still haven't made it to the store for supplies, so for now I'll just keep painting everything.
Been trying to finish another project first though, before next week comes along. My parents deem it crucially important enough, that progress has been dramatically slowed.
It's almost finished though, so hopefully progress can start to pick up soon.

Thanks again.
You guys make this hobby even more so enjoyable and not so isolated.

Just finished painting the foot version of Saruman during my lunch break at school. We had an extended lunch that day so I brought him along to paint.
Still need the eyes and base to finish.

I think I'll paint up next Gandalf the Grey or the Uruk-hai Shaman.
What do you guys think?
Here's pics of them before they're painted.

To me the osl isn't bright enough, I don't know, the white needs to be whiter......
Ooh, haradrim chieften (or is it the beastmaster) up next!

Yep, don't drybrush. :) Paint the white in several thinner coats....might be too much effort tho. Are you using GW skull white?

Post subject:  Re: So it Begins...

GW Skull White, yes. Was I going in the right direction for source lighting?
