I really like your wood elf bases. Gives a sense of autumn.

What on earth did you base those wood elves on? Also, great work making good looking minis out of those second-rate wood elf sculpts... I've never liked those minis, but your paintwork really brings them to life and makes them interesting.

The bases are soil and woodland scatter from basecraft. Stuff from the garden basically. I'm planning on making my own materials in future from dried plant material.

Here's the finished warband btw.

Love these.
Which paints did you use for what?
Might use something like this on the hobbit ones when they come out

Thanks,

Thanks. This was something of an experiment for me in using less earthy tones whilst avoiding the overall look being too vibrant. I used Hull red, pastel blue and prussian blue all from vallejo model colour. These were mixed with a medium grey to make them less saturated and added black and white for shading and highlighting respectively.

Hello everyone. A quick update to say I arrived in America this week. There's no gw in the state but there's a local gaming store that has a selection of metal lotr. I picked up golfimbul for $15 :)

Also once I am organised I'm planning on writing a few tutorials for one ring, I have a couple of ideas for the painting resources and afterwards I'll turn my hand to step by step tutorials. If anyone has any requests either leave a reply or send a pm.

I'm glad you landed safely. I'm sure you'll be back in the saddle soon (pun intended)
Tutorials would be nice. I've one that I've part written for my Mumak diorama. I can't find the time to finish it at present, the summer months are always too busy.

Thanks. This is actually my second attempt at the model. The large size makes judging the transitions and light balance much harder than human size models and the first time I tried to force the process by using heavy washes and made a mess. This time I'm taking things a lot slower with gentle glazes going back and forth over each area.

Well mate you have aced the skin completely, probably the best I've seen from you.
The finger nails seem too bright and the cloth seems a little flat at present. More shading around the fold beneath the two holes will sort that.
However this is harsh considering how wonderful this is, but I know like me you would want that.

That WIP is better than anything I could produce as a finished piece! Fantastic! The face is a marvel in its own right. Good sculpt but again, you have wrung the very best out of it.

Dirty fingernails! Love the details! ^^

I've. redone the nails and worked on the apron a little. I used some visual shortcuts to enhance the contrast adding dark blue to the shadows and yellow to form highlights.
