You're doing comissions?

Really looking forward to this one (as with all your projects  ), looks like you've made a good start 8)

Well sorta, Sid... In theory it's a trade (Thermo sent me 9 Rangers and a brace of horses in exchange for my 'skills' in creating 6 mounted Rangers and keeping the surplus stuff) but I suppose yeah, it's my first commission. :D

I just hope I don't muck it up :P

As am I! Very exciting to see that the work has started and certainly looking forward to seeing these six studs progress!

Loving these so far.

Could you do an article on how to do them in tomes of wisdom for the next ones?

Thanks,

LordElrond

Well, seeing as how my first article was never approved I'm a bit wary about spending hours on something that will never see the light of day... Sorry! I could probably give you a quick step-by-step guide if you were interested though. There's a lot of greenstuffing involved though, as I'm constructing the bottom halves from scratch!

Ranger One is almost finished, just needs some work done on his arms and some feet adding:

The bow might seem a bit long but it's the same length as the Dunedain/RotN bows. Wasn't entirely sure where to put it on the mounted fig so just copied the Rohirrim and added a bundle, too, for good measure. Looking at the photos, I might have to give the cloak a bit more definition and edge as one of the sides looks a bit 'sausagey'. All in all a good day's work, though!

You're getting stuck in aren't you buddy!

I'm sure these will all look gorgeous once they are complete :) I think the bow looks great actually! :yay:

just been through some of your old stuff...
3 things I loved-
-how you have painted Gamling's face and hair
- the subtle Gandalf conversion
-aragorn (the weathertop one)-his conversion and paint job. The dark colors look great as does the fact that it's really hard to work out from which figure you converted him.

Keep up the great work!!!

Thank you very much for looking through my WIP, Legolas! I'm glad you enjoyed the three figures you mentioned and I hope I managed to give you some inspiration/motivation/whatever :P

My - ahem, Thermo's - first mounted Ranger is finally finished, the undercoat wasn't dry at the time so sorry if the fig looks a bit glossy:

These guys are taking a lot longer than I had originally thought!

I've also 'started' on my next big project, a Weathertop diorama:

It's a panicky barbeque Ringwraith! Looking at the second photo I'm not entirely happy with the flames on the back of the wraith, anyone got any suggestions? Maybe only have the flames in patches with some cloak still showing through...?

The ranger is a tad hard to see as it's black but it certainly does look like an extremely good conversion :yay:

Really looking forward to the weathertop project! I think the fire on the ringwraith looks great by the way... much better than my attempt :yay: :yay:

Thanks guys - yeah, probably wasn't a good idea to take the pic straight after undercoating, d'oh :P

And Sid - thanks! It's gonna be quite an ambitious project and have finally amassed all the figures I need (Frodo and Sam from Captured by Gondor - gonna prop wounded Frodo up against a ruined statue and have Sam tending him instead of the campfire -, Merry and Pippin from Treebeard - they get pulled to one side by the Wraiths just before Frodo gets stabbed, so they'll be sitting there mouths agape -, a few wraiths - one engaged in a sword fight with Strider, the others either on fire, fleeing or both - and finally Weathertop Aragorn - which I'll convert the sword arm of to make it look like he's parrying a Morgul Blow)! Still umming and ahhing about weather (lol) or not to buy Ziterdes' Weathertop proxy or to craft one myself...

Aaaaah so much planned, so little time! :D

The only thing I could think of regarding the fire on the back is maybe spacing out the fire; like not making it one big block of fire, or taking some of the bottom off. It looks good though!

Thanks for the suggestion, Falkrik, was thinking something along those lines myself!

And nooo way, Ste, this project has already proven to take a loooot longer than I originally planned, another 6 rangers on horses would kill/bankrupt me haha :P

Here's the newest ranger I started today:

Very happy with how his cloak has turned out!

This guy only needs a few finishing touches, like on his cloak and feet:

There we go for now. Am aiming to have these two plus a new one finished by tomorrow evening. Have also created a greenstuff mold for common elements like sword sheaths and their cool quivers, hope that turns out alright :P

Thanks for watching!

Amazing work Matt..... Am thinking you should post a "how to" vid up.... I really struggle with green stuff sometimes....
Do you layer your green stuff in staged or try to get it in one attempt?

PS Ill look for how many spare Dunedain later hopefully after Man U haave hammered Real Madrid, lol

Hey Ste, that's very kind of you, thanks :)

Idk about a video but maybe I could do an article... That being said, the last time I wrote one it was never given moderator approval, so I'm a bit wary about spending 2-3 hours on sth that will never see the light of day!

Anyhow, I tend to work in layers. Keep your tools nice and wet (giving them a lick every now and then works, you can get smoother results if you keep dabbing the tools on a moist flannel) and don't try and do too much at once - you'll just end up putting your finger in sth that hasn't dried yet and ruin all your hard work :\

Nice Matt. I'm interested in your mold and how the results turn out. Please post an update when you can.
