The best part was those Isengard orcs. Those greyish tones worked pretty well.

I've decided to change the title of this WIP page a little so that it's more recognizable as a wip page. Also you can see easier who it belongs to.

Nice work. That diorama looks great - really authentic-looking terrain on it. The Balrog's got a really nice paint-job on it too.

Keep up the good work 8)

Hey mate, great to see you making progress on that diorama. It was a bummer you couldn't get it done for the challenge. It looks awesome so far and a really dynamic fight scene. Are you going to grind flat one side of those casualties to make them sit 'down' more into the ground (if you know what I mean)? Should be easy since they are all plastic. I really like you orc conversion too - works very well. Can't wait to see this finished!

Great looking balrog. Finish the diorama anyway - it may be late for a competition but it is never too late to do it for your own satisfaction. It will be great!

One of the best painted balrogs I have yet to see, well done.

That diorama is going to look great when painted up, you have a lot of work ahead on that one.

Once this is down you can be really messy, just throw loads of washes of different colours to get the effect. Use plenty of greens to simulate moss and have the same green running up some of the trees.
You can see on the below link my troll diorama, this is what I did when painting it.

I should also add that a few drybrushed for highlights in set areas will add to the effect.

Gandalf the Grey, I have a question for you and I guess to any other avid terrain builders.

I finally started painting my 4' x 4' board today by washing the entire board with black and then doing splotches of green wash with a brown wash to blend that in and cover any bare spaces. Of course, I left black showing as much as possible for shadowing and so far I think the board looks great. I could try taking a picture of it but the sun is already down and I'm not sure you'll be able to see anything.

I think the colors are more visible in the second picture. But then again... Also the board is darker than what is in the pictures.

The next step I believe is to start drybrushing it. Right? My question would be, what colors should I use to highlight it with? how much and where? and most important, how do I highlight it without getting lines from the brush strokes?

I hope you guys can help in any way. I think I'll post this same question in the terrain help forum as well. Thanks in advance!! :-D

The diorama is coming along nicely, can't wait to see it finished with paint and all.
Did you greenstuff the orc banner?

Thank you. :-D
Yes the banner is made of green stuff. I think that I had extra green stuff from the orc conversions so I decided to make the banner with it. I'm very pleased with it. The size is just right for the orc to be able to lift the thing above its head.

One of these days I'll finish the diorama. "But it is not this day!"

Everything is so sweet. Could I ask what you used to add texture in the ruined wall?

I'm not quite sure if I'm thinking about exactly the same thing as you are, so I'm going to just explain the whole thing. :)

The walls were leftover from an earlier project, made of 10 mm foam scored to look like bricks/ stones. Those were glued down, then plaster was layered around it to build up the piles of rubble. Then I applied tons of white glue to almost everything and threw on some small pebbles and then dirt, which is where most of the texture comes from. On the walls themselves, I believe that the texture came from stippling the plaster onto each individual stone as well as the back of it.

I hope that is what you were asking about. Thanks for looking. :D

I finished semester No. 2 for college!!! :D

And now I have a little more time for hobby things!
With that time, here is what I've been working on so far.

My gaming board, which got a first layer of flock:

It won't be that green. This was taken before I knocked off the extra flock. There will be spots that are bare of grass. I still need to add different layers and shades to it.

Image

Image

This hill that i started a while ago has more layers on it, but it still needs more diversity. (I decided to do the hill at the same time as the board.)

Image

And for models, I am starting on this guy! A dragon from Forge World!
The only work I've done is put it together and the base. What do you think of the base? Too little? Is something missing?

I've also started painting the models on the Osgiliath diorama shown earlier, but I haven't taken pictures yet. I am really excited to get these projects done! I can't wait to play a game on an actual board! (Well, one that looks realistic that is. )

Thanks for the feedback! Comments and criticism are welcome. :)
Till next time! (Hopefully soon!)

You could say that. ;)

I've done some work on the dragon. The base is all painted up and I've wanted the entire dragon in red so the recesses are filled with it. Hopefully the idea I have in my head will turn out well enough. I still need to take pictures though, so that will come later.

In other news, Merry Christmas everyone! Travel safe!

I also got excited as I painted the dragon, and so I started painting my cave trolls for my goblin army. Here's one of them. What do ya guys think?

Sorry for the brightness of the photos. I haven't highlighted the skin on the dragon yet. I've just used a lot of washes on it.

I wanted to do an update on some things, firstly my dragon. I still want to add more to the base.

I've also done some work on terrain projects. I'll get photos of that soon. In the meantime I will be working on finishing up my Moria force, having been inspired by this dragon. :-D

Let me know what you think! :-D
