Here is the drummer. It's not quite finished I still have a few small things to do on it.

And as a special treat, I finally finished my first kataphrakt!

I'm really happy with how they both turned out.
Please let me know what you think!

Fantastic looking, love the colouring of the horse as it adds a nice contrast deeper colours of the cloth and armour.

Thanks! I've started painting the horses now, but it might take me a while because I'm in need of new paint brushes.

I don't want to sound repetitive or annoying, but I would really appreciate you guys' comments. This is almost the only place where I can get good advice, and it's pretty disappointing to only get one or two comments. Again, sorry if this sounds annoying or selfish, I just want to know what you guys think.

You should be very pleased with the easterlings, they look awesome. What I like most is the natural appearance which can be difficult to achieve at the best of times and is very difficult when using red and gold.

Those are fabulous Easterlings - not too dark, not too bright, lots of depth and every detail is visible. Super!

These guys look really good. As stated before they're not too bright, nor too dark. The scale mail on the horse lacks definition though, maybe add some fine highlights to each individual plate? 8)

Utterly fantastic!!!
The horse is perfect!
The rider is also very, very, very, very good!

The base is especially well done! Perfect choice, looks like he's just coming home from a long campaign of slaughtering people 8) :yay: :yay:

Yeah, I wasn't really sure how to go about painting the scale mail on the horse. I think it turned out well, but I think I'll give your idea a shot.

Your Easterlings are very nicely painted. The dark and light areas in the flag blend together naturally. But I simply have to ask you how did you make this amazing wooden palisade wall behing the Easterlings?

That is actually something my brother made way back when. I'm not exactly sure how he made it, but here's how I think it was done.
First he cut up some barbeque skewers into different sizes, then he stuck them into something like Styrofoam, or some other sturdy base, then textured and painted. I hope I explained that well.

Here is just a small update, I did some painting on the next horse, and then I decided to take a short break from easterlings to work some more on my elf captain.

I painted the armor the same way I did the last one, I haven't tried the Avenger001's idea yet, but I will on the next one.

As you can see, I only redid a few things on the captain. I painted over the free hand because I didn't like it, and completely redid the sash and cape. I think it looks much better than it did before.
Also, here is a pic of a base I did using a texture and dry paint as an experiment.

It really isn't that bad looking, not as good as what I normally use, but it's decent.

I hope you guys like them, let me know what you think!

I like the colour scheme for those elves, especially the greeny bits 8)

I don't think the painting is quite as good as your painting on the easterlings but its still up to a good standard.

ps. I like the NMM on elronds cloak :yay:

well done!

Thanks Sid! Elves are difficult to paint, they turned out pretty well though.

Here is a quick update, a Mordor orc captain.

Took me two hours to do get to this point. The pictures aren't the best, hopefully I can get some better ones soon. It's still far from being finished, but it's well on its way. This is one of my favorite miniatures, so I want to paint it as best I can.
Please let me know what you think, thanks.

A good start for sure. What colour are you going with for his skin?

Just had a look through your thread, some amazing looking miniatures. I'm ashamed to say I don't think I've ever complimented you on your painting here before. Fantastic work though.

Thanks both of you

I'm not really sure yet, I'm leaning towards a pale green at the moment. I'm not sure though, any ideas would be great :)

That's fine, better late than never :) I'm thinking of going back and retaking some pictures of my better miniatures, the ones I have don't really cut it.
