Thanks. It's one of my favourite Hobbit models so far. The scuplting on the beard and hair is excellent and was really fun to paint.

Hi pal, your faces are awesome Ive on more then one occasion ruined a decnt paintjob when it comes to the face.....

Any chance of a step by step guide on your techniques???

It's normal soil that's been left to dry in a tub for a few months. I ground it quite fine and then super glued a few layers to the base and finished with some dry brushing.

I think I made a post earlier on about my approach but a step by step would be difficult because I'm not very methodical and tend to go back and forth between shading, mid tone and highlights until I'm happy. I think the key is to use very thin layers and gradually build up the colour.

Here's my attempt at painting an elf in the Hobbit film colours:

Apart from the metal I pretty much used primary and secondary colours mixed to the desired result. A fun way of painting but no use for doing more than one miniature.
