I agree with garmenhord, from what I can see those lighting effects are very good!

Fine, it's horrible, the torch looks more like an ice cream, the face is unrecognisable and the backpack is soooo uninspired.

Happy now? :P hahaha

This happened to me recently, I just sat there looking a my former brush rather dejectedly for a minute thinking "why..."

How does something like that even happen?

Some progress on Aragorn (despite painting with only a tiny bit of the brush) :D

The rucksack was previously pretty bad so I added some pockets to make it a tad more interesting

That is looking really good. If you are after some constructive feedback - I am not sure about the outer edge of the flame being black. It doesn't look right to me. Maybe just a dark red would be better here? The OSL worked very very well. The only things that caught my eye here that looked out of place was the bit of yellowing at the bottom of Aragorn's coat. It looks a bit more like mud at the bottom of the coat rather than OSL and I am not sure you need to convey the light falling on this part of the coat. I'm thinking maybe just a brighter green where you think the light is falling rather than the yellowish tinge. It's a minor point though! There also seems to be a bit of yellow on the leading edge of the coat underneath his forearm (the one carrying the torch) - this caught my eye too.

Minor quibbles on a brilliant paint job! Great work on his face too. :yay: :yay:

I think he looks great, but the right side of his face away from the torch needs to be heavily shadowed.

You have done a good job with the actual fire colouring, although there is in reality very little red in flame. More of a deep orange. I also see what you are trying to do with the black. You are attempting to simulate the fire gases resulting from the flames burning of the fuel. It almost works, but again, would be more realistic if it was a dark grey rather than jet black. 8)

Thanks for the constructive criticism ( :D ) Edge. I think you are right abot the first point - I'll fix that up in the next update. I quite like the other patch near his forearm though so I think I'll keep that :-D .

Really nice job Sid!
The addition of the backpack is very cool aswell!

Only suggestions I can make are:
1) a little OSL effect on the sword. The sword is pretty far from the light source but still, metal is pretty reflective
2) trying to make the face look a bit darker, cause now it seems you got another strong lightsource from the front and you get a feeling there's lightning incosistency.
Ofc you can use two lightsources (that's what I'm trying to achieve aswell), but the darker colours will give a moonlight effect which works better with a lighten torch..

Really nice work again!

I've now done a bit on the sword but I have put this project aside for a while in favour of the painting challenge and the below project.

Once more I have given in to temptation and started another (hopefully small) project. Here's a random 75mm knight that I found hanging around:
