Gold is such a horrible colour and photos do not help either. Nice job, love the banner mate. Congrats :yay:

Excellent painting :yay: The banner is superb! Did you put any washes on your gold? I find a black wash works quite well - seems to give the colour more depth.

oh, thanks edge :-D

I used snakebite leather and then scorched brown, both watered down.

Ive got my flesh wash and black wash working now so i will probably use them in the future :D 8)

you could try to highlight the gold with a super-fine edge of Mithril Silver, not all around the armour parts, but just where the light would reflect.

Looking great though! 8)

the extra pics with focus on certain details in a bigger scale is a very nice idea..
Good luck with your entry!

Sid, you're progressing day by day, and it's a pleasure to see the progress.

As far as the elves go, I still think the armour is a tad flat - but then I've never liked Shining Gold anyway :P

Sid, on page 1 you asked a question:
SidTheSloth wrote:
Here's one of my bigger projects to make an orc drummer.
has anyone got any ideas on how to make a strap for the drum?

You have probably done this already, but others may find it helpful:
Method 1) Take a piece of packaging wire, the stuff that holds toys in their boxes. Strip off the plastic coating, then squash the wire flat with pliers or a hammer. This will create a thin flat strip which works nicely as reins or straps.
Method 2) Roll out a very thin sausage of putty, then sprinkle some talc or chalkdust on a flat surface. Put the sausage on the dust and roll it with a round pencil or similar along the length, which will obviously flatten it. You can then lift it and apply it to the model. Keep your rolling tool moist or the putty will just stick to it as you roll.

Thanks for the help, mate, I think I'll give No.2 a go 8)

I will try Brewer's idea and see if it gives some more depth.

It's very nice to see your progress, your getting better with every update.
I especially like the cloth, but I have to agree with shieldmaiden about the armour, maybe a wash or two will do the trick along with Bart's idea?

Post subject:  Re: Sid's painting progress :-D Aragorn at Weathertop

much thanks for all your kind comments every one

well, I finally decided to repaint my weathertop aragorn. I also decided to have a go at some OSL while i was at it. It turned out alot better than i thought it would as my previous OSL was really REALLY bad ( my gandalf is currently a whitish/blue mess  ). anyway heres aragorn:

I've also used the new flesh wash on his face and so far it is awesome!

There are still a few bits and bobs to do on aragorn (sword, details, the greenstuff backpack, ect... ) but so far i am quite happy with him :)

Please be as critical as you can on all of my work! Tis' the best way to learn!

I reckon all you guys are being way to kind as i'm pretty sure I'm not that good. Be critical too!
