Thanks everyone!

Whatevier, that video made my day! :-D

Another update on the Mumakil!
I'm loving the eyes on this model. I'm very pleased on how they turned out. :D

I should have taken a picture of the outline of the warpaint before I put the design on (Liche Purple-dark colour) to show you my thought process. Oh well.

Looking at the side of the head, I had the 3 triangles above the eye and two going to the front tusks mirrored on the other side too. I wanted a symbol that hasn't been used before, like the serpent or even the scorpion. I looked at the outline of the shape and said, "That looks like a wing! I could do a dragon!" And so the dragon has become the symbol of my Haradrim. I need a Dragon now. :-X

Besides the Howdah and crew, the Mumak is almost finished. :D Some minor but crucial details like that huge gap in the leg :!: , toe nails, and even the tail.

Really sorry for some of the pictures being blurry or too bright. :x

The mumakil is epic! I love the dragon idea, and it looks great. The purple looks really cool on the mumakil, and the eyes look great too. :yay:

Thanks everyone! Always enjoy reading what others have to say. :D

The skin. Let's see here. Chaos Black to start with of course. :-D I had a different colour scheme before the new one so it had Codex Grey and Fortress Grey drybrushed on there I believe. If you want to follow the paint scheme, just start here. I washed the skin with Nutmeg Brown (Acrylic brand: light ish brown) then drybrushed it on after the wash finished drying. I then drybrushed in this order the following colours: Kammando Khaki, Dheneb Stone, and finally Screaming Skull (New paint. Slightly brighter than Bleached Bone).

Hope that was easy enough to follow. This monster has taught me a lot of patience, that's for sure.
And I think my free-hand art is starting to improve. Hopefully.
I would highly recommend to anyone painting the Mumakil to use a large brush for this beast because it is HUGE!!

Love the colour and the designs - it works really well. And the eyes set it off brilliantly. When I finally get to painting mine I'm coming back here to steal your ideas - muha hah hah hah

Skin looks great too - thanks for posting your recipe. 8)

Post subject:  Re: So it Begins...

Thanks Edge and Chris! :-D

I think it's about time for another update. :D

To start off, I am making a sort of pledge/oath. Hopefully it'll help motivate me to finish more models. So, for every model(s) I paint, I will reward myself with a battle. I hate playing battles with unpainted minis so unless they're painted, they'll have to sit on the sidelines. So far I have a small army for Isengard that is battle-worthy. I am now painting some Rohan models equal to the points of Isengard. That's Battle #1.

The next one involves finishing the Mumakil and crew to fight against my Riders of Rohan (unfinished too). Being finished also counts for terrain so those need to be finished in order to make the battlefield look like Middle Earth.

So here is the Rohan army to contend against Isengard: Gamling leading 24 Rohan warriors and a banner bearer.

What they should look like when painted:

Completed for the Painting Challenge:

The base is supposed to represent burning grass in the back. I tried OSL to mimic a fire burning behind Gothmog with the glow shining on the ground and off the warg and his armour. Not sure how well that was pulled off but I think it looks convincing. :-D Let me know what you think.

Basing a Mumak:

Is that enough grass for the base?

Not to worry! :-D

Alright. I just recently went to my local hobby store and bought more models. Let's take a look at what I found! :D

Two Dwarf Ballistas:

Metal ones, too!
I got really excited and started to paint one of them. They are some fantastic sculpts!
Once I get more Dwarves, I'll reveal my painting scheme for the army. :E It won't be the same for every model.

Gandalf the Grey mounted and Radagast the Brown foot model:

Well, for now it's still Gandalf the Grey. :-D More on that later.

A box of Rangers of Middle Earth!:

x24!

And now for another finished model:

The Balrog!
Well, finished till I decide what to do for the base.

And lastly, I've started to empty all of my unopened boxes and started taking the models off the sprues. I'm starting with Easterlings, then going to the Army of the Dead (including the 3 archers mentioned earlier), then to Galadhrim Warriors, another box of AotD warriors, and finally to the Rangers. The metal models will fit in between some of those to break up the monotony of the same models over and over.

So to the Easterlings, I've made two conversions that will help break the identity crisis. :-D

Two Easterling Captains:

I may add a cape to the first one as it screams for something on his back!
On the second one, I'm scratch building an Easterling Halberd. All that's left is for it to dry and than I can add the axe part of it. I think my sculpting is getting better if I say so myself. :-D

So that's it for today! Thanks again for all the support, and hopefully I can get a battle report written when I finish some models! :D
Till then, hope you enjoyed!

Fantastic Wah Wing! Really like what you've done withthe Mumak's base, Gothmog and the Balrog :yay: :yay: I look forwards to seeing the Rohirrim painted 8) For the Easterling perhaps a back banner would work?

Hi,

great work! I especially like Gothmog's skin tone, excellent alternative to the typical flesh tone! I'm looking forward to seeing those rohirrim painted up-some great models amongst them :D

Keep 'em coming :yay:

Post subject:  Re: So it Begins...

Thanks everyone for the kind words. :)

I've done a little more work on one of the Easterling captains.
I wanted to add something to his back so he didn't look so... boring, if you will. And for some reason, I was inspired by the unlikeliest source; a particular bounty hunter from Star Wars to be exact. :-D

So I decided to add a small cape billowing in the wind. (What little wind there is inside a house anyway. :-D )
I also want my captains to have a slightly different colour scheme but still fit in. The cloth will be black, white, and red respectively and the cape will be a bleached or stone colour.

I've also started to finish my Easterlings began so long ago. There's only a few layers of paint on them at the moment.

And lastly, another project. Can anyone guess what it is at the moment? Don't mind the Easterlings standing next to it. They are just test models for scale purposes. For now anyway. :E

Hope you enjoyed my little update. More coming soon! :D

Is it a siege tower? Doh!

Nope that's not it. :-D

How about more WIP shots of the terrain? :P

Again, the Easterlings are for scale. They're actually supposed to be attacking, not defending. :-D

Wow you have been busy :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Nice colour choice and war paint on that Mumak, nice Easterling conversions and painting (inc. that cape 8) ), nice Balrog, nice Gothmog, and of course, nice terraogn sculpting, is it Moria by chance?

Great Balrog and I like the weathering on the bottom of Gandalf's cloak too.

As for the terrain piece, I thought it might be a bridge but now I reckon it might be the citadel of Minas Tirith for some reason.
