Looks great so far. 8) The painting really gives the trunk good texture.

Post subject:  Re: Mapper - Warg Head Battering Ram

Thanks, it has been a nice diversion/project.

As mentioned, took an extra fell warg head, a plastic tree trunk and put it together as a battering ram. I had some Uruk Hai I had gotten in an Ebay purchase that were missing their pikes so I whacked them apart and added a crew to the ram. Nothing to look at too closely but it was fun to do.

That is one really awesome Battering Ram! With the wargs head it looks more intimidating than the origional one ;)

Those pics look fantastic - you should post a bunch more ! Show more angles, show more close ups, show more everything ! :)

Also love how the goblin bases match and blend into your lovely Moria board....

Well done !!!

Post subject:  Re: Mapper's Moria Goblin Horde

I think horde describes it better than army. Since it is Goblin month on The One Ring I present my Moria Goblin Horde. I just finished receiving and painting the second Moria drummer set this week and except for two other projects for Moria I am almost ready to leave the darkness of the mines to other projects.

I honestly don't know how I ended up with so many goblins - Mines of Moria set, first Fellowship set (bought several times) ebay, etc. What you see below are 60 archers, 60 spears, 60 swords, 2 drummer sets, 2 shaman, 4 prowlers (which I use as Durburz bodyguard), Durburz lieutenant (I don't believe in Moria goblin captains - they are a horde after all), all led by Durburz. 190 Goblins in total.

Painting all of them obviously took some time with several shortcuts; not all flash/mold lines removed, kept number of colors down to speed things along. I would only have a small number on my painting table at a time so I wouldn't be overwhelmed by the number of them. Did give them all eyeballs though.

As mentioned, I have two Moria projects left - one modified base for the drummers and a conversion. No more goblins to paint. Will have more pictures on a bigger board with more pillars, etc. later.

So here is Mapper's Moria Goblin Horde!

Post subject:  Re: Mapper - Another Cave Troll

Just when I thought I was done with them... Reading the Fellowship of the Rings again this summer I read an sentence that intrigued me. The Fellowship has left Balin's Tomb and were ready to cross the bridge and leave Moria. In the book they came down on one side of a chasm with the goblins on the other side. Right before the sighting of the Balrog there is this sentence: "Two great trolls approach; they bore great slabs of stone, and flung them down to serve as gangways over the fire." For some reason I liked this visual and when a plastic cave troll from the Mines of Moria came up on Ebay for $3, I couldn't resist.

Some re-positioning of the hands and an arm, a piece of bark from the yard to pin to his back and I got this:

Don't know if I will ever use it and looking at the pictures I realize I need to do some more work on smoothing the hands out, but it was fun making it.

When I got my second set of Moria drummers, I pulled out the extra drum from the cave troll set and made a drum that will definitely be heard when they are coming.

That should wrap up my Moria phase, just have to wait for a nice day to spray everything with dullcote.

Great to see how the books inspired you to convert such a characterful piece.
