I really like the colours used. It's different from the usual paint schemes. Looks good. 8)

And I thought it'd be fun to show my finished and unfinished models at the moment.

If nobody minds, I'd also like to show a sculpting project I'm working on. It's not lotr related, it's a guy playing airsoft. This is my first scratch built model of this size, so I'm pretty happy with how it looks.

Comments and criticism welcome. Hope you guys enjoy!

Thanks. Now, thanks to DMS, I've got a kind of secret project. It's nothing near as incredible as what he and UKFB did, but it's fun anyway. Basically I'm just messing around with a new painting technique that I've found to be incredibly difficult, and I want to give this mini a really cool base. I've already almost finished painting the mini, but I imagine it's going to take me a while to come up with something for the base, so any advice is welcome. Hopefully I can get this finished in about a week.

Haha, very true. Let me rephrase that. Any advice on how to make my bases in general better, like specific products that people have found to be useful, is welcome.

POW - I don't really use anything special on my bases - just large/ medium and small stones , gravel and then the usual modelling flock tho http://www.usshop.thearmypainter.com/index.php do some great flocks, poisoned ivy and grasses - take a look

Thanks, the armypainter grass stuff are exactly what I was thinking about trying, I just didn't know where to find it. Thanks again! I'll be sure to give some of the grasses and flocks a try.

So I got a few different grass tufts, and I'm really looking forward to trying them out, but unfortunately I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow, and I won't be back until near the end of this month, so I'm going to have to wait to try those out until I get back. See you all later this month!

Well, I'm back now, and I've already been back at painting :D I finally finished the Isengard trolls base, and did some more work on Frodo. I also did some more work on my little secret project, the painting is done now unless I spot something that needs touching up or decide I want to add something else to it. I've started on the base too, but I'm kind of afraid I'll mess it up, we'll see.

I don't really like Frodo right now for several reasons. First, it's not a very good sculpt. Second, this is it's third or fourth time to be painted, so most of the details are gone, like the mouth. Third, I don't think the OSL looks good, so I might just have to do a normal sword.
I really like the troll though, I think it turned out great. I used some of the grass tufts I got on the base, and I absolutely love them. I can't believe I went so long without them, they make the base look so much better imo.
I hope to have both Frodo and my secret project done by tomorrow, so stay tuned. Please comment, and criticize.

It's a dwarf warrior, and I painted the armor using the SE-NMM technique, and it's hard. It took me forever to get it to a point where I was happy with it. I know it's not the best, but I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Hope you guys like it, and C&C are welcome, so please let me know what you guys think.

That looks absoloutely superb mate! I've read up a lil about that technique in the past seems a bit daunting but I reckon you've done a dam fine job first go! The only minor critisicm and really I'm just being picky but perhaps some parts of the shield the paint looks a little thick however probably understandable given it looks a difficult technique.

Overall it's one of my favourites of yours, well done :) :)

Thank you, it's one of my favorites too. The paint on the shield is pretty thick, I put a lot of paint on on it. Overall it was really fun to try, if a bit frustrating. I don't know when I'll use this technique again, but I'll definitely be more confident if I do.

I would love some more comments and criticisms! I worked hard on this and was hoping to get a couple more, they really keep me motivated to continue painting.

PoW - First things first........ Your troll is the best troll i have seen to date, he looks straight out of a photograph and the base is 100% pure quailty, the grass tufts do add a little somethng extra to the base. Outstanding paint work.

Frodo looks great to - I think you did a great job with the OSL even better when you attempted it the hard way round by completeing the miniature and then adding the OSL to the finished miniature, to those of us who have tried this method and effect it is all the more appreciative at how well you have done with this model. Well done mate you are living up to your name as being one of the very best on the site - One to be afraid of in the painting challenges!!!!

And finally - I have scrutinised your Dwark warrior extremely closely looking for something that I can give you some constructive criticism and well ....................I can't find anything mate. The paint job is fantastic, painted with an extremely difficult technique to pull off and make look authentic. My friend you have achieved both here. The shield and axe head are that good that it takes 5 minutes at staring at them before you even start to look a the paint job on the reast of the model. Really well done sir !!!!!!! I think you have crossed a line with this miniature from being a really great painter to being an absolutely 100% flawless painter, it really is that good! Paint more of these guys and do an article on how you did the axe/shield it woul be beneficial to all.

Fantastic mate - Well done :yay:

Excellent work through and through :yay: that dwarf must've taken ages, I do not envy a person having to do NMM.
