Those grim hammers have to be my favourite dwarf sculpts. I must get some one day.
That aside, you've done a great job bringing them to life.

Thanks for all the comments guys, they are really motivating :) Slowed down a little this week but currently working on Gandalf from the EFGT set whilst preparing another batch of models ready for priming (Warriors of Rohan).

Not much hobby time recently, too busy decorating at home. A bit of an update though:

Finished Gandalf from the EFGT set. Not sure how I feel about the finished model. Sometimes I look at it and think I've done OK, other times I'm not keen but can't put my finger on why:

I have prepared some Uruk Hai for priming:

I have made a start on Gandalf the White on Shadowfax. This is my first attempt at 1) Painting white, 2) Painting a horse and 3) Basic attempt at blending (on the horse):

I'm fairly pleased with this model so far although I think I went too heavy on the blending when I got to the lighter colour range. More thinning needed next time I think.

Finally made a start on Radagast albeit very briefly:

EFGT Gandalf looks great, I think you issue could be that you can use the highlights further, particularly on the top of his left arm.

I agree, Gandalf looks good. I would maybe deepen the shadows on his eyes, simply because of his hat, but otherwise it looks pretty good. Shadowfax is coming along nicely as well, on the mounted model.

It looks like you have the same problem I do...Start one miniature, and then jump to another one before you finish the first! Haha!

Thanks for the tips Gandalf and Erunion. Further update time, I've not done any further work on Gandalf the White because I've been waiting to buy some further paints. So I have been working on Radagast and have now completed him.........

I was a bit nervous with all the different browns before I started but found myself really enjoying painting him. I am pleased with the results although I notice from the photo I have missed the pupils, this does not seem so obvious in reality, but think I might revisit the eyes if I'm feeling brave.

I have also painted 5 plastic Uruk Hai for my sons army and although I didn't spend a great deal of time on these I'm fairly happy with the results.

As always feedback welcomed :)

Very neat, good tabletop standard. Still pretty impressed you're this good in under a year. Give it another year and you'll be doing drool-worthy stuff. Keep trying new things!

These Uruks are excellent, you have spent time on the armour and it shows. I detect some lovely green glazing. I would add some dark blue and purple glazing to the shaded areas to add some more depth.

Very nice! It's always great to see some Uruks brought to life with an excellent paint job. Thumbs up!

Update on this weeks work. I painted a further 4 Uruk Hai warriors. I tried to incorporate Gandalfs suggestion of using a dark blue glaze as a shade on the armour so did this in the deep recesses. I think it has made a difference so thank you very much for the tip. The first picture shows the 4 I painted and the second shows a comparison of my first attempt from last week and this weeks version using the blue glaze in the recesses.

I also completed Lurtz for the hobby challenge for October. I am really pleased with this and think the final result was worth the time I put into it (more pictures on the hobby challenge thread):

Image

I've also done some more work on Gandalf the White. Mainly the cloak which I intend to work on further this week. I'm pleased with how this model is coming along.

Image

The next week will be used to finish off Gandalf and probably making some terrain in the form of a small wood. I may also start Thrain who is now primed and ready to go.

I really like your style, some great stuff here. Your progression should be to start on the mid tones, start working the blend to smooth out the transition from light to dark.
I think you have the talent to really push your work.

Bit of a change this week, I decided to make a couple of items of terrain for the board. Firstly I have put together a Norse building I bought from 4Ground. I thought it looked a good substitute for a Rohan house. Its a laser cut MDF kit and my first attempt at something like this. I am really impressed with the quality and attention to detail.

The roof is removable so you can access the inside for gaming purposes.

Image

Secondly, I have made a three tree wood using pre made trees and a base from 4Ground (again). As we don't have much terrain I wanted something quick and easy and this method seems to have done the trick.

Image
Image

Finally I couldn't resist a bit of painting and took a break from the Uruk Hai and finished off Gandalf on Shadowfax. I spent much more time on this model than any others I have done and I am pleased with the results. This is the first time I've painted a 1) a horse and 2) a model predominately white.

Thanks for reading and as always feedback gratefully received.

Gandalf looks fantastic! You did a good job of distinguishing the warm white of Gandalf's cloak and the cold white of Shadowfax.
