Nice army, good luck painting it all

I could be wrong as I don't play War of the Ring but I'm fairly sure Hornblowers and Drummers are pretty much the same thing, so I'm sure you'll be allowed to substitute your Hornblower for a Drummer.

Thanks guys!
Is it just me or is the horn too big for that size? Should it be smaller? I'm not that great at scratch building(which it was) so the size is most likely off.
Thoughts?

It could do with being smaller as it is quite large for the model :)

Post subject:  Re: So it Begins...

Could be a bit *smaller but I actually like the size, it looks like something the uruks threw together and said "what the hell, well it works."

I like the look of your models.
If you know what I mean, they look a bit less shiny and more rough and realistic.
Good job and nice conversion work! 8)

So, right now I'm drawing up the plans for the fortress. I'll see if our scanner can pick up lead or if I'll have to trace over it with a pen.
But, I seem to be stuck on a situation: The back gate. Does any one have any pics of this as I am having trouble locating a decent picture as to what it looks like.

This is the closest but I still don't know where sections connect and what leads where.
Image

Also, is it an actual gate, or is it just stairs leading to the wall? Are the archways in the back the door that leads to the Glittering Caves? How many stairs are there behind the Deeping Wall? I counted three, but am not sure.

Sorry for all the questions. I hope these are the only ones, but that's no promise.
Thanks ahead! I always feel welcome on this site. 8) Will try to get that scan of my plans on soon.

So here is the scan of my plans. The area emphasized in red is where I'm having trouble. (Ignore the small dot in the middle). The scale is there as well. Do you guys think the entire board will be too big?
Image

My writing is small to many people so the scale is 1inch = 1foot. Right now, the table will consist of 4 boards; 2 4'x4' and 2 3'x4'.
It's still only a rough draft of the actual thing but it's a start! :-D

This is my vision of what I'd like to produce, playable of course:
Image
I'll make the breach so the wall can be lifted on and off, depending on the condition in-game.
Thanks for your comments so far!

Couldn't agree more. Very impressed with the work. I, myself, have absolutely no skill when it comes to touchy things like this :) It's usually press here, touch there and then get frustrated and throw it away :D

This is a scan from Allen Lees concept drawing from The Lord Of the Rings The Art of The Two Towers by Gary Russel page 158 New line and the publisher have the copy right so be sure to credit them in your report.
The thumbnail shows some concepts for the back of the fortress. I highly recommend this book if you can find it.I do not know what the model makers decided to build, The scripted action took place else where and I have not seen photos of that part of the model.
I also want to refer to this from 1996 http://larsen-family.us/~1066/helmsdeep.html
and JRRT own drawing of Helms Deep http://larsen-family.us/~1066/jrrhelmsdeep.html
You can find a reference to this drawing in J.R.R. Tolkien Artist and Illustrator Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Schull page 165

I hope some of these links help with your project. I am afraid that question opens up a big can of worms.
I found the other link I was looking for
http://www.shiftinglands.com/helmsdeep03.htm some details from his impression of inside.

All of the links you posted have been useful in some way!
I need to finish putting Greenstuff on my Isengard Troll for the paint challenge so I can add it to this project. School just started so time is dwindling.

Looking forward to watching this project progress as well as seeing your Isengard Troll in the challenge :)

Here is my Isengard Troll! I've added the photo to the Paint challenge too, though I'll probably only put the finished product there, while the WIP pics will go here to the finished troll.

Still need to place spent arrows here and there, on the base and the troll.
Have to wait for the greenstuff to dry before I spray the troll.
I decided not to magnetize the arms and weapon hand, so will save the magnets for another project. Hope to get this guy started soon.

Next up: The Defenders. (Probably said that before).

Thought I'd add some progress I've made. Not much but it's getting somewhere.
I've finished the base first and added spent arrows. Since the pics, though I've started to paint the skin.
But this is what I've done so far.(-the started skin).

The sun made everything seem brighter but it's better than the pictures I tried taking inside the house.
