I think what let you down in the painting challenge was the choice of photos. The three shown in the voting thread are wide shots that show off the sweet base but little of the detail on Haldir. In comparison Damian's photos put the model in it's best light and his Haldir really pops out as you scroll down the screen. You also want to crop your images to remove a lot of the background.

POW - we all go through lulls in painting where we hit a low point and feel that nothing we paint is as good as it should be - its all in the mind. Your Haldir is fantastic!!!! It has forced me to rethink my armoured Lothlorien elves which are now on the repaint list. There is no way imo that you could have improved your challenge entry it is simply that MMS wiped the floor with the lot of us lol and good on him (the swine  ) Keep painting my friend and keep your chin up - like MMS says maybe crop the background a little on future entries but as far as your painting goes just keep doing what your doing, you are one of the best painters on this site and when I see a proof pic go up from yourself in the challenge thread it pushes me to go that little bit further with my own model. Keep the faith mate 8)

Hey guys, thanks for the help! It's much appreciated. My photography and everything related to photography is still pretty foreign to me, so I'll take all the advice I can get on that. I think my biggest problem right now is the lighting, but I've got some ideas I want to try to help with that, and then I'll start cropping the pictures too. I'll also remember to choose better pictures for future challenges. @DMS, yeah he did pretty much obliterate the competition in this challenge.Too bad I don't have any Haradrim to enter in this months challenge, I really want to paint some, but I'm sure I'll see some great stuff from everyone else :D
So I didn't post the pictures of the Easterlings earlier, but I hope to soon, which means they probably wont be up for a while, but I'll try to get them up within the next few days. I really want to start painting the kings of men I have, but I'm kind of intimidated by them. I want to do a different color scheme than GW's but I haven't seen any alternate schemes to give me ideas so I'm kind of stuck. I'm sure I'll figure something out, but I'm open to any ideas you guys might have.

I have not had a camera for a few weeks which is why it's taken me so long to update this. So be prepared for a lot of pictures. I'm using a different camera than I usually do, so the pictures aren't as good as they could be.

The second troll isn't quite finished yet, I still need to do the base. One of the archers is also missing his quiver, I just forgot to put it on, so I'll do that soon. Please comment and criticize. Hope you guys like them!

The trolls look awesome! Great work. I like the easterlings too. Do whatever you can to get more light into your photos so we can see more of the awesome detail in your work.

Love the colours on this. Really nice work. Wish I could put together such a diversity of colours in such a pleasing way.

Agreed, it reminds me of one of the Three Kings.

Very nice colour scheme, and the jewels look awesome. However, the eyes just don't so it for me. Compared to some of the other eyes/faces you've done (and compared to the jewels) they just aren't up to snuff.

Thanks for the comments! I'm really happy with how this one turned out. For any one that were wondering, the metal parts were painted using the NMM technique.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Part of it is because of the camera I think, because they don't look quite so bad in real life, but they still probably could have been a bit better. I'm glad you like the jewels though, they were really satisfying to paint.

I really like your entry this month. The colour scheme is very brave and works well to give a regal appearance. Good luck in the voting!
