Lately I've been painting some LOTR. I've started a small project in which I'll be painting one warrior from each major LOTR faction (1 uruk hai, 1 Warrior of minas tirith, 1 Rohan warrior, 1 orc, 1 Haradrim, 1 Easterling, 1 elf, 1 dwarf etc.) and at the end of it they'll all be being put up in the local GW on one of the shelves in a hope to show more people a bit of each LOTR army.

So far I've painted up 1 Mordor Urul-Hai and 1 Warrior of Minas Tirith:

I've also just this afternoon based the Haradrim Warrior.

So far I'm pretty pleased with how things are coming out. More updates will come after christmas sometime :)

Comments and criticism welcome as always and much appreciated.

Regards,
Jake.

I do like your Urk Hai base 8), with the gondor solider's head, simply but effective :-D. Nice cloak aswell, isn't he though from the Urk Hai bomb squad? I swear he is :?. Never have painted any Haradrim Warrior, so i'd like to see how he looks :). Good job. :yay:

I like the Uruk, Jake - especially the skin tone . :yay: The bloody sword looks ok because of the head on the floor. I don't think the WoMT sword works so well though. I'm guessing you've aimed for a recent stabbing look, but to me it appears like he's just used that sword to stir his paint pot with. Blades that have stabbed victims almost clean themselves as they are effectively wiped off by the skin as they are withdrawn from the body. Yes there will be blood on the blade, but it would be thinly smeared, not thick and densely covering the blade.

Of course I'm no painting expert, so take the above c&c with a pinch of salt if you like. Just trying to help make a good model even better.

Also Orc and Uruk blood is a deep blue, almost black.

It seems he has been doing some backstabbing! :-D

Very nice paintjobs though. Especially the Uruk Hai.

Thanks for all the comments and criticism! I am going to repaint the blood on the gondorians sword so thanks for the advice. Another update will come tomorrow. I'm currently using the site on my new iPod touch and have to say it's very impressive and a very cool little device :)

Merry xmas everyone!

Try just dabbing some Red Ink straight from the pot with a 0000 brush or similar, in small parts at a time to build up a 'splattered' effect...I have had some very good results with this and much more realistic Red paint in my honest oppinion.
You obviously have to 'buid up' the layers, but it takes a short amount of time.
Example:

Chaaarge! Those guys have some awesome poses, and your paintwork on this one is spot on IMO. I'm also very impressed with the base, keep it up!

I have a small (sort of nubie) question: How are you going to paint the Harad warrior since you based him. Won't you get some paint on the sand when you paint his boots?
Just wondering, I have yet to figure this out for myself, so I figured I'd ask :)

Thanks for the replies everybody.

Krol - I usually base my models completely before I start on the actual model now (although I always undercoat the model first). I don't know why, I never used to but I do now and personally I just find it easier. Though most people do actually paint the model first. And about getting paint on the base, if you have a steady hand it won't matter. But if you did happen to get paint on the base, just repaint it.
