I've visited this forum for a while and now I FINALLY took my time to create an account! There's so much amazing stuff in here, very inspiring!

Recently I bought some Hobbit Militia, Hobbit Archers and the "Hobbits Of The Shire"-set and I decided to start building some terrain. So I'm working on a model of Bag End and since I've enjoyed many of the WIP terrain-pieces in here I thought I wanted to share this one.

I drew the door, windows and the wall-details on some thick cardboard:

Then I started adding more cardboard-pieces and green stuff for all the details:

Right now I don't have room for a complete Bag End so when I cut out the base of the hill I decided to make the back of it flat. Like the hill has been cut of so the terrain-piece only fits the edge of the gaming board. This still gives me the opportunity to make another piece later on to fit in when placed next to this one.

I twisted the stair (The one leading to the hill, not to the garden) so it turns a bit more to the left - I wanted som space for the hill to slope down. Not enough though, so the hillsides shape looks a bit fake there. But maybe in the future (If I get more storage-space) I'll make the hill continue instead of just sloping down. Maybe by merging this one together with another piece, maybe by making this one a corner-piece that fits with another hill... This will have to do for now.

Excellent work, terrain building is all about compromises, how to fit it on the space you are going to play, how to store it, etc. Looks like you have a good grasp on that and are doing a good job. Good attention to detail before you started also.

Where did you buy the long grass?

I forgot to take a picture of one of the windows last time, so here it is:

Yesterday I worked on the fence. I made some holes in the base for wooden sticks. Just to make sure the fence is securely fastened. Then I started merging some aluminum wire between the sticks.

For the poles on each side of the door I cut out some plastic and then stuck a round-headed needle into each of them. On the backside of one of them I added some very small wire-pieces for hinges in which to fasten the door (And hopefully I'll be able to open and close it when it's finished).

The long grass is from Noch, I can't remember who I actually bought it off, maybe Antenocitis Workshop. You should be able to find it easy enough.
It is listed as Wildgrass and I got it because it measures 18mm. When I applied it I gave it a trim here and there to represent different lengths, it is also slightly thicker than the other short grass so it makes it look more authentic.

Lately I've spent some time working on the detailed "frames" on the windows. I want the windows to look a lot like the ones in the movie and after trying some different materials out I finally got the idea of making them with green stuff on a transparent plastic sheet. I used transparent plastic because it allowed me to sculp the "frames" with my scetch-drawings underneath and make the size fit - And because I thought it would be easer to remove the green stuff afterwards. And luckily it was! It took a long time to make these but I'm very pleased with the result.

I plan on getting some small lights to put inside the model. So when the whole front wall is painted I'll add some transparent plastic sheet so the light will come out through the windows and show the details more.

I added some details to the bow over the big window as shown on the picture above. I didn't plan on doing this from the beginning but after the windows I thought it would be nice to give it that little extra detail.

I've also been working a bit on the hill. The chimneys are not comepletely done yet. I want them (and the tree) to be removable so the model will be easier to keep in storage. The top of the hill will (hopefully) be removable so it'll work as a box for the chimneys, birdhouse and other details that could easily break when storaged. This also means that even though the inside is one big empty room, it can actually be used when playing.

I haven't done it so far since the stair is one of the things I might want to redo. The steps are too perfect in shape and I'd like a more rough look like this:

Maybe if I just cut off a bit of the steps... And of course it'll be much better when I add some grass. I also consider trying to turn the stair a bit to the right if I choose to change the look of the steps anyway. I know it's placed too much to the left but I didn't wanted it to take up to much space down by the fence.

Very nice work and the technique for the windows is very nice to...I had the amazing idea to cut it all out of sheets of plasticcard...ich think this would have saved me some swearing and bleeding finders... :P
