Well... the question is as the title says...
A bit of context: Wednesday I played a game and rolled a 4 and a 5. That was enough for 1 wound to a hero with just 1 wound and 1 fate remaining. Do I have to use the might point before he rolls his fatepoint, or can I wait till he rolled his dice and then decide to use it.
I paid the mightpoint just to be sure and I think it's the right way, but I'm not sure...

Yes, you must use might to alter your roll and determine the total number of wounds before your opponent rolls his fate roll.

As far as I know that's incorrect, you can wait and see if he makes his fate or not, then if he makes it spend your might. Dunno where that is written though :(

Sorry @Phantom_Lord, you are mistaken.

I'll try to find the exact rulebook citation tonight when I get home, but it's something akin to this...

Player A wins a duel
Player A then rolls to wound - Might may be used to alter the "to wound" dice roll, if desired.

then.....once the total number of wounds caused is determined.....

Player B takes that amount of wounds, or, if he has Fate remaining, he can then make his fate rolls to try to avoid those wounds

Yeah, a player does have to pay the might point when causing wounds to affect those dice. Once the other player makes a fate role the game has moved to another step. The same with mighting a spell cast result and using will to resist.
