Well i like the good old lotr sbg best and don't really like the new wotr system that makes it all just warhammer-like. It is obviously that gw only published this new system in order to make more money. So what do you think? sbg or wotr?

They actually made WOTR because of demand for a rules system to allow battles rather than just skirmishes.

I think youre right but i also think they would never have done it if this wouldnt get them more money... Like " Ahhhhh youre right ppl we need a system for that you need some new rule books, bases and bigger armies!"

would have been better to make rules to allow multiple dice rolls for mass combats with sbg rather than conflate the rules and generate epic heroes and the complicated rules unnecessarily

What sort of business doesn't listen to customer demand? They listened to people... what's wrong with that?

I prefer to play battle companies as a first preference.

But given that your poll only caters for BSG and WOTR I'll vote for BSG as they use the same rule system.

Nice poll question though as I have wondered what proportion of players prefer each of the two systems.

I've only ever played SBG, so I can't exactly vote for WotR in the poll, but for GW to release a new system is not a bad thing. This means that they will continue to develop more products for the hobby in the future. I know that SBG has lost a lot of the focus now, but it is better than GW abandoning it completely. I would be interested in having a look at the WotR rules, but more for inspiration for house rules than anything.

wotr is alot more complicated than sbg, so i chose sbg + i think that it looks better when the models are
spaced out so that they look like they would
in real life, if lord of the rings existed

SBG all the way. I've played the game for 6 years and even after buying the WotR book, I still prefer SBG. I like smaller conflicts and combats where an induvidual model can help turn the tide of the battle.

SBG=Every model counts for something, even the Goblins I use as meat shields
WotR=Lots of models=Lots of Dice=Lots of Death. Only heroes have any real effect on the course of the battle if things are going badly.

EDIT: Both systems have pros and cons so it's up to the induvidual which system they want to start with.

So the purpose of this thread isnt to find out which system people prefer, but to bitch about WotR? Nice.

Point of fact:
If it wasn't for the recent popularity of WotR, SBG would be even further behind in support for models than it already is. 3 new plastic sets in the past few months? Not if SBG was still the only way to play LotR. Sad, but true.

Now in an effort to take this thread seriously and ignore the "Thats dumb. This is better." mentality, I will answer the question posed. What rule system do I prefer?

While I do prefer WotR, I am eager to try SBG again as I haven't played since its earliest days as the fellowship boxed set. I wasn't very impressed with those rules and popular consensus states it has gotten much more refined since those days. The SBG rules are great when I played Legends of the Old West/High Seas (which shares the same design engine as LotR SBG) so I figure I need to revisit the LotR variety again.

Which makes answering this poll difficult but went with WotR since thats what I am currently playing. I want to be a LotR player who can play and enjoy either system.

Well not at all... We just agree in opinion. Or aren't we allowed to justify or reason our choice? Or is it just that iam not allowed to agree with somebody? Think about it... If you like wotr more thats cool but don't criticize us for not being of your mind. 8)

Please reread my post and what I quoted.

There is nothing I said that even implied "Or aren't we allowed to justify or reason our choice? Or is it just that iam not allowed to agree with somebody?"

I am not criticizing your choice. I am criticizing your reasons and your motive. Big difference. "Think about it."

"Obvious that GW only published this new system to make more money"?

If that doesn't set the tone for a thread I don't know what does.

Why do you feel that it is obvious that GW made WotR solely to make more money?

I embrace a difference of opinions. But when a position lacks any reasoning, then that position invites debate.

Well a company does something like this to 1. get more money and 2. keep customers busy and indeed in this succession. Thats how economy works. And did i say thats wrong or bad? Actually its good because like you said ...

You can also call it my opinion if you feel better then.

Well yes, thats the whole idea of the thread, it IS asking for YOUR opinion and will naturally be biased to whatever system gets more votes.

the OP cheers responses that agree with him.

since this isn't and objective study/survey, there is nothing wrong with cheering.
