What the hell did GW think of when they created this profile?

He is way too heavy for those little point value ...

Or do we German White Dwarf Readers have a mistranslated profile?

What do you think? Is the Knight of Umbar too strong for his point value?

I could have lived with the 'Knight of Imbalance''s abilities if they would have reduced his Will or Fate. I could just about have accepted even this not happening if his spell casting rolls were higher. Yet the reverse occurred, extra Will compared to Khamul, and 3 Might, the same as the Witch King.

Even the most cursory of looks at his stats would have shown he was too powerful for 120 points.

It looks to me like a rushed job, to meet the 'White Dwarf' deadline or that nobody really cares that much about LoTR SBG. Or maybe both.

All of his spells are harder to cast by one pip, other than Sap Will, which is 2, than for a standard Ringwraith.

Can anybody give me the exact English rule for his Combat Mimicry? We Germans discuss whether he can copy only one thing (F, S, A) or more than one.

Without repeating the rule verbatim, he can choose to use all, any or none of the 3 stats. This is specifically mentioned in the English text.

Thank you! So our hope of a translation error is gone!

Gaarew, in comparision with Khamul his spell casting ability is near enough identical (easier Black Dart, slightly harder Sap Will). He also has more Might and more Will than Khamul. So why now bother with Khamul?

just a lateral thought perhaps;
quite frequently as I have seen in other GW game systems, sometimes a perceived method of pointing a troop type or character, may not always follow, and this is often due to other not immediately foreseen concerns.
for example the character my usual accompany less powerful troop types, or not have certain upgrades available, or other usually not immediately realised reasons why a points variation has occurred
I don't know whether that is the case here at all?
Plus at the end of the day there is still "theme-ing" your force. The knight of umbar will accompany harad & corsair forces more specifically than Khamul would...

The more I think about the Knight of Umbar the more embarrassed I feel. Against rank and file, especially FV5 Elves he is far less effective than Khamul - What's the KoU going to do, copy the FV or the 1 attack? At least Khamul can increase his FV or attacks, or strength. On reflection I now think he is far less 'gross' than I did originally.

The joy of the internet is that you can post comments without a moment's reflection!!!!

There are lots of other fractions, not only elves. And he is brilliant versus heroes!

Why he is strong against heros? he gains exactly the same so the change is 50% that he loses and a ringwraith is easy to kil in combat with heros.

He can transfix them before attacking them and then copy their values ;)

2 of those value's are reduced to 1 because he transfixed 'em, so its not that good a tactic
