I've played against darves last night, but nobody knows how the dwarf ballista exactly works?

Yes, 'Piercing shot (short)' (http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1330021_Khazad-dum_Special_Rules_Summary.pdf) but we didn't find the range, does it scatter,...

It follows the same rules as all artilley, listed in the main rules manual, save for any specific exceptions mentioned in the Khazad-dum sourcebook.
