Nice work on the hand with the heat gun, simple but very effective.

Hot water would have been better. I did not have a candy thermometer to test the water. I was in a rush. I ruined one using the pan as a heat sink. It melted flat on the back. The heat gun gets too hot too fast and does not heat evenly like water.

I have been getting ready for the Hirst Arts Southeastern Meetup Sunday. I have not had much time for LOTR. One of the HA group is about to start work on a spooky tree project. I will be active with that. I have quite a bit done on Mirkwood.
There does not seem to be much interest in the Hobbit. I am very discouraged.

I would hope that the release of the new film, along with a good set of figures being released would cure the lack of Hobbit interest.

I am afraid that is unlikely in my group.

This doesn't mean you are scaling back with LoTR ? I sincerely hope not.

I have not lost interest in Middle Earth or building things. I am no longer collecting Games Workshop figures. I am no longer going to promote the SBG at the shop. I don't use GW paints so there is little I can contribute other than building tips. Am I scaling back? Yes. But you don't game so you understand my interest is still high.

I don't think Middle Earth will lose me but I want to try out painting some bigger figures to see how well I can paint them. I think this will be an experiment but you never know how far something will take you. However I'm enjoying my building project at present, maybe that's my way forward ? Who knows but as long as I'm enjoying myself then that's the main thing.
I can understand where you are coming from with your scaling back. Like everything, it's just a natural progression.

I found a cheap Christmas Village decoration for a dollar. I decided to fix it up for my shire collection. I will finish painting it tomorrow and add flock and leaves and grass.

That is a fantastic looking tree - you are very good at seeing the possibilities behind something that did not start in Middle-earth. I love the gnarled and twisted shape - it looks like an ancient tree.

It was a fun cheap project. I realized as I was working on the foliage it will make a good tree house. I will pick up some more.

Is that lichen you have used for the first layer of foliage ?
Then covered with a coarse scatter ?

Yes, then Woodland Scenic Med green blend flowed by yellow. I put the lichen on with hot glue. The flock with hairspray.

Mike likes to run his games the length of the table. 6 feet by 12. With 10 players the game lasted 5 hours. My Halloween game starts next week.

Wow an amphibious landing! I've always wanted to try something like that. Do you have a full on battle report?

I put this together Saturday as part of a club how to project. I primed it black before I went out yesterday. I started the paint when I go home for the day.I will add some washes tonight.
The layout is odd but I followed the game tile plan. I will build the other half Saturday. I plan to have the water done this week- drying time may be a problem.
Anyone have suggestions for more decorations for some of the walls.
