Hey guys and gals, names Chris. Long time LotR collector here, going back to the first box set that came out with FotR. I actually cannot believe that I've only just found this community!

Got several large forces, painted to a decent tabletop standard. I've actually not played a game for years, the scene died off around here years ago (so much so that the limited edition Hobbit box sets got sent back to HQ by our local store after it only sold 2) and I've been desperately hunting for some new players.

Started off as a fan of the old animated Ralph Bakshi animated film as a kid, which my mum taped from tv on an old VHS that I wore out. They got me the Hobbit when I was 10 and then the LotR trilogy for my 11th birthday, and I've been addicted ever since.

Hoping to find some other players in the local area to play against. GW has suffered a pretty spectacular backlash at the game groups round here, so many have converted to Warmachine/Hordes that even 40k and WFB are pretty much unplayed. This leaves me in a bit of a rut, having actually quit two clubs in disgust at the new "tournament or die" attitude these games engender. Hoping to find more people here who collect and play for the love of the background and the joy of the game, rather than going for the big 'W'.

I'm a member of a loose, hippy gaming collective called Just About Games (JAG) who are basically an internet forum for people who collect rather than purely game. Been trying to get a few people interested in SBG, but there seems to be an over riding sense that the game is criminally expensive nowadays. I especially find this funny, as most of us play SAGA where a roughly 30 figure box set will set you back approximately £40, yet for some reason paying a similar amount for 50+ LotR figures is over the top!

Rambling a bit now, anywho, background over. Wanted to say Hi! :D

Welcome to the One Ring Chris. I'm a collector too and was also inspired by the Ralph bakshi animated movie. Good to have you here.

Welcome ChrisC. Another collector here, at least to a degree as I don't game, I'm in it for the hobby side.

Hi Chris, I'm from Essex also. Nice to know your're nearby as there's not many around where I live.

Thanks for the welcomes all.

@Bofur The Dwarf: I'm in Witham matey, yourself?

@Cuchulain84: Perhaps we'll meet at some local tournaments, I'm hoping to jump on with the Great Hobbit League once I've sorted my collection into something playable under the new rules. It's been many years since I moved my Uruk-Hai around the table in anger :)

Hi Chris,

Great to have you on board. I too got hooked with the Ralph Bakshi movie.
It would be great to see a few pics of you collection?

I'm actually in the process of repainting a lot of my old metals, 10 years make a lot of difference to my painting skills. My plastics will have to stay the way they are, mostly due to the dangers of stripping plastics without damaging them and the cost of replacing them.

I should have my metal fellowship finished (again) later this week, and will start a thread for them once sorted.
