Absolutely, great forum!

Unfortunately the world is full of mean people, and they feel quite confident on the internet as long as they remain anonymous.

I love the atmosphere of the One Ring, easily one of the friendliest places I visit on the web.

Truth be told...I don't really even play or collect anything LotR or Hobbit related anymore. I'm mostly stuck into historicals now. But I prefer it here!

Hi,

I'm new here and only joined after being a 'guest' for many years and seeing the general good feel to the forum. I did not take this decision lightly as I've been on others and seen the sort of posts to which GD refers. As an 'experienced' (read old) gamer /collector I come from an era where people had to actually talk to each other and any unnecessary 'flaming' usually ended with a smack in the mouth  - how times have changed.

Anyway, looking forward to getting finally involved in the community more and that is thanks to OR.

Welcome to the board MungoBaggins. I myself only joined the board only recently after lurking for about a year. I'm not much of a forum going myself and have been surprised at how often I just check in to this forum to see whats going on. I think this is the longest I've actually stayed an active member on any forum as I usually grow tired of the overall communities.

Thanks to all of the members and Staff that make this a very helpful and friendly site. Wealth of Knowledge on all facets of the hobby alone keeps me busy as I dream my pipe dream of being skilled.

One-ring is a very nice forum all around and the one I take part in most often. I feel so lonely being one of the rare people who collects Lotr in my community, I'm glad I found a site where people enjoy this specific hobby range and share things about it. The last time I remember things being so heated up on this board is when GW announced that they're getting rid of metals, introducing Finecast, and raising prices. Even then things didn't get too out of hand (and I found it quite lively and fun).

The worst I find on the net even though it's not a forum, is the Youtube comment board. There, $#!% always flies.

Me too. I really like LAF, it's really friendly. If you upload something that's not that good, you'll get constructive comments, or at its worst, no comments. But I've never seen comments there that were horrible and insulting towards the member who started the thread.

I have been a bit of a forum junkie over the years, signing up for dozens in that time. I sign up, but then my interest quickly wanes when the content proves to be light-weight. The only ones I visit regularly these days (aside from here of course) are TLA and The Miniatures Page (TMP). Lead Adventures is another good one and thanks for the reminder about it.

But in all that time, I have seen so much vitriol hurled around the forums that it sickens me. Try posting something mildly contentious on Frothers for example and see the reaction - it's horrific. The reason why people do this? Purely and simply to watch the reaction they get - it's exactly the same as a 6 year old kid hitting an ant's nest with a stick. But they just don't understand or care that they are hurting real people.
