The BBC have been carrying the same basic news: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11560411
And the Examiner in Toronto: http://www.examiner.com/entertainment-n ... o-shoot-3d
Let's hope all goes according to plan!

So what do you guys think of Martin Freeman as Bilbo? I think he's an excellent choice, he's the right age and looks like a young Ian Holm. And how about that 6'2" Scandanavian playing Beorn? He's unknown to me, he might be good for the role.

I can see how you mean he's like a young Ian Holm, I think he could fit in quite well. Have they got a final decision?

Most of the cast already been leaked sometime ago.
Some are just rumours, but you can check the whole list on IMDB.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/

Funny that Jed Brophy will be back, now to play Nori. He was a few orccy guys in the LOTR trilogy.

Also, rumours that mr. Leonard 'Spock' Nimoy might be Smaugs voice.

Whoa Whoa Whoa.....Where Does Legolas fit in the Hobbit?? I mean it would be a good cameo but he never is mentioned in the book.

well one of the main reasons is that tolkien hadnt even thought of character legolas when he wrote the Hobbit. If you think about it, given legolas's age during the lord of the rings (im not quite sure about his exact age, though i know he is almost ancient but young for an elf) he would have been around during the hobbit which takes place (correct me if im wrong) some 50 years before the LOTR. And since the bilbo and the dwarves traveled through Mirkwood it is quite possible that Legolas woulld be there :) also his father is the elf king in the hobbit.

but i have to say that, although it would be nice to see some of the old cast return in these movies, i hope they dont overplay his part if hes in it.

I agree; I'd actually love to see Legolas in The Hobbit, but we don't need his part to be overplayed. Like, give him a major role when the company is actually in Mirkwood, but maybe not even include him in the Battle of Five Armies.
