In Peter Jackson's The Return of the King, Variags were depicted as a cross between feudal Japanese and Mongolians, with such objects as the vertical flag attached to the back of the warrior, except that the Variag chieftains rode in chariots.

I found this on wikipedia .. is it true? I have never seen any warriors liek this in the movies.....


If it is true, the games workshop design is pretty spot on! :shock:

Don't believe all that you read on Wikipedia :wink:

But to answer the question, there is no reference to Variags of Khand in the extended version, nor 'the making of' DVD's so I think that they have made a mistake, perhaps confusing it with Games Workshop

sure sounds like they are from a mongolian type army because khand sounds mongolian lol

Having read through the article on Easterlings, it looks like they should be more Viking than Japanese!
