This week we played Hold the Line with our main battle companies. Dwarves vs. Harad! Can the riders break through the dwarven line and escape up the road? I think the Dwarves did pretty good this round, their tactics seemed solid. I don't have a vault warden team (going to convert one or two), so I'm curious how they hold up against a charge, both horse and monsterous. What about a hurl from a troll? Would the guy behind go flying too, or is the tower shield enough to save them both? |

The spear gets +1 to wound against monsters too! Against the horse charge they're pretty good because the defence 9 is so tough and they get the two dice for the duel roll-off (one for the shield, one for the spear). To be honest, the biggest threat from cavalry is their ability to come around "the back" and just attack the spear dwarf (though they still have 6 defence!) In this mission I kept the spear in the middle of three shield dwarves (one vault warden shield, two normal shields) and that seemed to work really well. |
