A very good article, well written and a pleasure to read. You should be proud as that is a very nice looking Sam. LOTR minis are not easy to do especially the smaller inhabitants of Middle Earth. I would like to see the whole group together. Fantastic.

Very nice job Mark, nice to see a guide starting from a white undercoat as most people use black... Nice quality pics make it a pleasure to read, great job!

THanks for sharing mate, I hope to see more of these!

An excellent guide. I like your white primer painting guides; I've learned some new tricks from them.

Nice article, its is great to see some of the better painters giving up some of their secrets.
Very well written and full of that Tobold philosophy that we come to love.
Yes you are right all painting should be done for enjoyment and not for perfection. Well it has to be that in my case anyway :)

Thank you Elrohir!

At the time of writing this, your posts numbered 1, so I am honoured to be replying to your first post on One-Ring. Not the place for welcoming new members, but welcome!

I find I need to remind myself regularly that painting (and the rest of the hobby) is there for our enjoyment, or else the pressure to get everything 100% ruins everything and makes me want to give it all up (which would not be a sound economic move, given what I've spent already).

More than that, there are so many truly wonderful people here, the kind of people I wish I had grown up with. You will find a veritable host of nice guys here, and loads of encouragement, no matter what level your skills are at. It's the greatest aspect of the hobby I have found, and the one that makes it absolutely impossible to totally quit the hobby. Games Workshop should put THAT on their website. :)

Can't wait to see your next one!

Thank you again. I for one feel intimidated when my models fall short of my intentions and I used to spend so much time fiddling with painted models, I never painted anything new. After reading the article when I was 'lurking' over Christmas, it struck me that I spent more time worrying about the finish rather than enjoying the models. This article has reminded me that it is meant to be fun. Also, I have a spare Samwise so I will use this guide to get him finished.
Thanks :)
