Post subject:  OR Awards - Seven weeks to go

It's only Seven weeks to go before this year's One Ring Awards kicks off (sorry for the football metaphor).

Remember, there are trophies for first place winners and basing kits as second prizes in each category, so get started now. Entries will be accepted through the month of August with voting taking place in the first two weeks of September.

Don't leave it too late - last year's entries were impressive, but we can do better this year guys!

IMO with the advent of War of the Ring it would be nice to have a best army component, rather than just single figure/ single sculpt categories.

I wish mine were. I don't even know what I'm going to do for it yet and lately I've been so busy painting my army of Uruks.

 I've only started the diorama.
But I'll have a lot of time during the holiday

I am thinking about entering, but have no idea what to do.
But there is so little time left.

Thanks for the correction General Elessar. :)

Noddwyr - there are 11 weeks to go until entries close.

Felaorf - there will be a first prize for beginners, but last year we only had two entries so we didn't give out a second prize.

11 weeks! but its seems like so little. I will submit an entry though, even if I am not thoroughly satisfied with it. :-D

Me too. I'll certainly put something in one category or another.

We have had plenty of warning about this. 100 day's worth. So we can't complain. I'm usually a bit 'last minute' when it comes to entries - if you don't count the dragon!

Hmmm... I am thinking about it a lot. Inspiration will strike soon, I am sure.

Well I know what categories I'm entering, and what I'm not. I doubt this year will see a master craftsman entry from me. The early chapters of FotR don't really make me want to go out and get creative. That could change of course and I may surprise you.

I think Year 12 will prevent me from making too much effort for the awards this year.

Next year though, I'll be ready!

There's an old post where last year's entries can be seen?

With any luck, once my exams are over I'll be able to get something entered for the fabulous competition that is the One-Ring Awards, though, what with my noted absence from the hobby it'll be poorly done.

Good luck everyone, only two-score days left to go!

I think I'm going to give it a try in the diorama category, but I still have some questions.

-Do you have to make a WIP of it? (just pracitical, I want to start asap and have to know whether I have to take photo's or not)
-I'm going to create a path in the mountains, do I have to bring my models in it too or can I just enter with a landscape?

You need to have some WIP pictures handy, just in case you need a bit more proof that you actually made it. A WIP picture with a dated image of The One Ring in the background can be useful as proof of a WIP as shown in the recent painting competitions.

With the scenery/diorama category, you can enter with just the landscape or a landscape with models; it's up to you.

Natarn is right. You do need to take a few progress pictures. Doesnt need to be every step, just a few (early, middle, late) would be enough. Also, they don't need to be in the entry photo. You can just keep them in the hard-drive just in case one of the staff asks for them to validate the entry.

Diorama and Terrain are the same category in the Awards so doesnt really matter if you add miniatures or not. With the miniatures would be considered a diorama, without them it would be terrain... but its the same category. Personally I'd choose the one it looks the best.
