Wild Wargs have now been released in a set of their own. They're the same models, just without the riders. A nice idea I think, and one that is really helpful to Misty Mountain players. They are on pre-order for the 19th of June.

Hope you like this news guys! :)

Heh, neat.

I think I'll pick some up.

Wasn't a huge fan of the plastic Warg riders (much preferred the metals), but the idea of a nice horde of these guys is tempting.

Sweet! I'm loving the consistent trickle of new stuff lately. Makes me think we might actually get down to elves someday...

They used to offer those sprue as "bitz" orders a long time ago when they actually did such helpful things. The thing about this set is that I'm not sure if it's really a value. I didn't think so back then but the prices gap has increased a bit this time.

The thing is, these are the exact same models (at least they look like it), and in USD the price is only about $8 difference between the two. If you don't mind spending the $8 then you get the option of using them as Warg Riders (which in WotR are a lot more effective than they were in SBG). Additionally, even if you don't want to use the Riders as such you have all those shield, weapon and bow/arrow bitz from the Warg Riders to add variety to your hordes of Orc warriors (and can even do some Warg Rider / Orc body-part swaps for additional variety).

Just some food for thought before you spend 2/3 of the price anyway.

BeautifuL! Perhaps I'll be picking those up soon when I start my monster army. Either way, I'm extremely pleased with how many new models for LOTR are coming out. :-D

Insert chorus of heavenly voices here * * :D

for I was most impressed with that warg battle host.

I'm not so sure about wanting to get this. I would prefer to buy sets of warg riders, as that would give me more versatile models (ie. I could then use them in several armies in WoTR, rather than just one). So by buying this set, especially if you then want to create an Isengard or Mordor army to go with it, then you'll end up spending more overall.

Too bad I already have 6 boxes but then again I will need more.

Been working on a warg list as an ally to Angmar for a year now. (see: old I.C.E Angmar supplement for the theme)

Which makes me beleive that since the Druzhag battlehost is out and you need 6 boxes worth of wargs that this will make building such a battlehost a lot cheaper.

Yay!

More Wargs. however this is more of a re-release.

(Puts on old timey voice) because I remember back in the day, in a time where some metal minatures could be ordered induvidualy (my 3 Castellans pfor example), when letters (A-H) where used for the pricing and the GW site was it's old self, you could buy the Warg Sprue from the bitz (as well as the fabled metal conversion sprue) for £12, but since back then Cavalry still cost £12, I just bought the riders. All they have done is made it £2 cheaper (or £5 cheaper than today's Warg Rider box).

Still, more wargs for my Misty Mountains army.

Speaking of which and not to throw this thread off topic, but is that third castelland still available anywhere? or just a random mix each time?

As others have stated, this is really more of a re-packaging then a release. It's a very good thing still, and I love that GW thought to do this. I'm considering right now working on some Angmar and Arnor forces for SBG, so this could really help me. I'm sure we'll also have a new release sometime over the summer as well. :)

There just a random mix, since they are always in the blisters now...

Back on topic, I'm hoping for more LotR releases as well. 40k is fun, but I still prefer SBG.

They're awful by comparison to the metals because they have no goddamn harnesses. They should keep the wargs up on direct order and make a new kit for the warg riders if you ask me.

You are a scholar and a gentleman, sir :)

(And written by Heike and White Dwarf's own Graham Staplehurst!)

Though I am less fond of the Angmar book compared to the Arnor book.

I think that personally I would buy the warg riders over this, as you get the option for the riders and all the bits. But, if you are specifically getting them for the battlehost and have no interest in army's that use warg riders it's a nice way to save some money. But the overall thing to me at least is that fact that we got a 'un-announced' release that was definitely not expected, this will hopefully continue.

I agree with you there, but given that it is likely one of the best and only sources for deep background of the Angmar area, what else is one to use even if much of it isn't exactly tolkien canon? I think of the Angmar supplement as something that compliments the Arnor supplement. A sub-supplement if you will.

I loved those old ICE modules, especially the cover art by Angus McBride. I used to own them all, then sold them all, then tried to find them again. Never could find Angmar again... :(
